PS4 announcement forthcoming at E3?

Submitted by on Saturday, 7 January 20124 Comments

With the Wii U slated for full reveal this year and rumors of Microsoft’s next console announcement swirling PlayStation fans have wondered when Sony would make its move.

According to a ‘concrete’ source, the PS4 will be announced at this June’s E3.

UK video games industry website, MCV quoted what it is calling an ‘exemplary, 100% concrete, ultra high level’ source in saying that Sony’s next console will be announced to the public at this year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo otherwise known as E3.

In conjunction with the alleged unveiling of presumably the PS4, the unnamed source added that Sony’s primary industry rival, Microsoft, would likewise be announcing its next console. If the statements made bear out E3 2012 has the potential to be the most robust of all-time with Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo all brandishing new consoles at the Los Angeles Convention Center.

Although a new console would be in direct opposition with Sony’s purported 10-year life cycle for the PS3 which debuted in 2006, industry changes may be pressuring the company to accelerate its plans.

We’ll have to wait and see how this all plays out but there’s no doubt a new console announcement would be a definite game changer. What do you think of a PS4 unveiling coming at a time when developers are really getting a handle on the PS3’s capabilities?
