It’s a little known fact that the Academy Awards were originally scheduled for this week but then the Hollywood well-to-dos got wind that the PlayStation Store was holding the Gamer’s Choice Awards the very same week and promptly did an about face. No doubt they knew a sub-par year in film was no match for a fantastic year of downloadable games. Sign into the PlayStation Store to vote for your favorites.
Outside of the Gamers’ Choice Awards the update brings us a few pearls including Storm, Killzone 3 multiplayer and Majiesto’s favorite game from 2011: Deus Ex: Human Revolution.

Killzone 3 celebrates its one year anniversary this week and to celebrate Guerrilla Games has announced that the full multiplayer portion of the game will be heading to the PlayStation Store as a standalone download next week. This is one birthday party everyone can be a part of.
Although obtaining Final Fantasy XIII-2’s platinum trophy is considerably less time-consuming than it was in Final Fantasy XIII, you’re still looking at the best part of 80 hours or so to acquire it.

Final Fantasy XIII is considered a great game by some and even a greater disappointment by many others. Square Enix has let it known that Final Fantasy XIII-2, while it may have the same name in its title, is a completely different experience from its predecessor.
Has the game changed enough to return trust to the faithful fans or should Square Enix have put its resources more towards the next iteration of the franchise?
.Unlike the North American store, Vita games will apparently have to wait until next week’s update to make their grand debut on the European stores. There’s no reason to be sullen though because like the North American store a great amount of content is hitting this week.
Highlights this week include the Mass Effect 3 demo, Grand Theft Auto IV and 27, yes 27, PS2 classics.

Despite their huge success on PC, RTS (real-time strategy) games have been largely lost on console gamers. While console-dedicated studios have only managed moderate success in their attempts to replicate the addicting gameplay, their PC brethren have enjoyed it for generations. Because of this developers and publishers alike are reluctant to try their hand at this genre, which perhaps represents the greatest opportunity for innovation within the industry.
Obviously this week’s update is dominated by the massive collection of launch Vita titles that are arriving on the store. A total of 17 games are now available for download on your new device. We hope your memory card can hold it.
In other news PlayStation Plus members are gifted a full retail game, Grand Theft Auto IV and House Of The Dead III can be purchased and the Mass Effect 3 demo awaits. All-in-all this may be the most content rich PlayStation Store update the States have ever seen.
