LittleBigPlanet Karting Image e1332429840953 LittleBigPlanet Karting races onto the PS3LittleBigPlanet is taking its Play, Create, Share model to the race tracks with LittleBigPlanet Karting, Media Molecule announced today.

The company is teaming up with United Front Games, the folks behind ModNation Racers, to put Sackboy and friends behind the wheel of their very own racing kart. The game will feature the same customization tools familiar to the LPB community and will hopefully please racing audiences as well.

As revealed in the debut trailer, LittleBigPlanet Karting will feature multiplayer, battle modes, and a vast single player campaign. The object of the game is to provide  “a fast-paced experience that captures the best of classic karting gameplay, married with the unbridled creativity of LBP,” according to James Grieve, Sr. Producer at United Front Games.

Players will be able to create their own races and battles with whatever rules, weapons, and abilities they want. Bounce pads, grappling hooks, rocket boosters and a whole lot more have worked their way into the game. The creation tools themselves have been tweaked to adjust to creating racetracks rather than levels, but all should be familiar to veterans of the franchise.

LittleBigPlanet Karting is slated for a 2012 release on the PS3 and will be 3D compatible. With LittleBigPlanet Vita coming out soon, there are no current plans to release Karting on the PS Vita. It does look like ModNation Racers will be taking the backseat for a while, though. Ready, Set, Create!
