Into the future – Crytek’s newly updated CryENGINE 3

Submitted by on Wednesday, 18 April 2012One Comment

Crytek, the German-based developer responsible most notably for the Crysis series, has made significant improvements to its acclaimed game engine, CryENGINE 3. Eligible developers will be able to put the updated engine to work right away.

Take a look folks at the future of gaming visuals.

The free CryENGINE 3 SDK update was granted to developers earlier this week, comprising of an extensive list of improvements, innovations and alterations which fly safely over the heads of average gamers (see the full list for yourself).

Additions of note are more realistic water effects, dynamic shadow displays, real-time reflections and bolstered AI. Of course we’re simplifying a complex set of development tools but these are some of the aspects gamers will likely notice first.

Obviously it will probably be awhile until games utilizing the newly-updated version CryENGINE 3 hit store shelves but the improvements are vast and obvious to even the uninitiated.

Coming off the heels of Crysis 3’s premature announcement,  it’s been a busy week for Crytek. Although it’s a foregone conclusion that Crysis 3 will utilize the in-house engine, no mention as to the extent of this update’s impact on the forthcoming sci-fi shooter was made.

Let us know what you think of the freshly minted engine update in the comments below. Impressed?
