Two new characters added to Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed

Sega’s next iteration in the kart racing series featuring the fast moving hedgehog was shown off at E3 with two new characters to choose from. Joe Mushashi from Shinobi and Danica Patrick from…the real world of NASCAR, will both appear in Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed when it releases for PS3 and PS Vita sometime this holiday season.

Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed is the sequel to another Sonic racing game and aims to raise the bar by implementing innovative transformations to the new vehicles and tracks. Cars will now transform into boats and planes while the track shifts between road, water, and air.

But that’s not the only thing that is transforming. Apparently the market strategy for the game has transformed into one where Sonic will be in NASCAR and Danica Patrick will be in Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed, as a playable character. Sonic on the other hand will simply appear as a decal emblazoned on the hull of the No.7 Chevrolet with Danica at the wheel. Maybe Sega will buy the NASCAR license from Activision and put Sonic in a NASCAR game with Danica on the cover.

Kellie Parker, community manager for Sega of America, recently posted the news on the PlayStation Blog with an unlikely quote from the mouth, or keystroke, of an excited Danica Patrick.

It’s a very exciting experience since I’ll be sharing the screen with such an iconic character. I cannot wait for gamers to jump into my customized, transformable vehicles and give Sonic a run for his rings this holiday season!

E3 also allowed gamers to try their hand at a new track tied to the Gilius Thunderhead character from Golden Axe. Adder’s Lair is a much darker map than Sonic and all his friends are used to. It features a long stretching river of lava for the boats, vast perilous caves for the flying and stone pathways with plenty of shortcuts for the driving sections.

Hope your children like skeletons and hot lava.

Do you think Sonic’s newest friends Danica Patrick and Joe Mushashi have what it takes to hang with the big boys of team Sega?
