PS3A PlayTime – week of 4 June, 2012

Submitted by on Monday, 11 June 2012One Comment

E3 2012 has come and gone, so we understand it if you think that may have made for some limited play time. The funny thing about watching E3 press conferences is that it really makes you want to play games. What did he make time to play during the buzz of the biggest gaming convention of the year?

This week, Ubisoft’s press conference showcased a few sequels to epic franchises like Far Cry 3, Assassin’s Creed III and Splinter Cell: Blacklist. During Sony’s press conference, developers showed live gameplay footage and teaser trailers several new games like Beyond: Two Souls and The Last of Us. PS3 hard drives across the world became very scared at the premise of 12 free full PS3 games for PlayStation Plus subscribers. And EA’s press conference brought the heat from both cars and guns.

Each week the PS3 Attitude writing staff has been asked to answer three simple questions, but we would love to hear your answers as well. Keep us informed in the comments section that follows.

  1. What games have you been playing this week?
  2. Did you accomplish something cool?
  3. What are you watching or reading?

What I’m playing: Another week of Vita for me – I just can’t seem to get in front of the PS3 at the moment. FIFA Football Career Mode offline, as usual.

Accomplishments: I’ve discovered the only realistic way to avoid the ‘cup winners freeze’ bug in FIFA Football is to press ‘X’ as fast as possible when you’ve won. Too often, if you sit watching the celebrations, the game will freeze and you have to play that match again. Quitting the celebrations quickly seems to be a good workaround, but it would be nice if EA could plug the hole sooner rather than later.

What I’m watching and reading: I’ve been reading a few magazines this week, including Men’s Health, GQ, Runner’s World and Stuff.

What I’m playing: I ploughed through Resistance Burning Skies’ short. Singleplayer campaign, jumped in and out of Tomblitz and FIFA Football, and partied like it’s the 90s again in PixelJunk 4am.

Accomplishments: PixelJunk 4am has some creative trophies: wear a green shirt for one and touch Move against the PSEye for another.

What I’m watching and reading: Not much literary reading for me, due to E3 distractions, but my Feedly has been regularly refreshing.

What I’m playing: Spent the entire week at E3 so there are too many to name. Some highlights include Metal Gear Rising, Zen Pinball 2, God of War: Ascension, PlayStation All-Stars, Battle Royale, and LittleBigPlanet Karting.

Accomplishments: This marked my 4th E3. I never imagined I would be privileged enough to attend one, let alone four.

What I’m watching and reading: Haven’t had much time this week to focus on anything else other than video games. I guess that’s a good thing lol.

What I’m playing: Uncharted 3 Online, Crysis.

Accomplishments: Discovering a new tactic in Crysis. Driving a truck at full speed into an enemy vehicle full of soldiers, then jumping out at the last minute. Very satisfying.

What I’m watching and reading: Mogworld by Yahtzee Croshaw. It’s about a character in an MMORPG who gains sentience.

What I’m playing: Batman: Arkham City, Max Payne 3 multiplayer, MotorStorm RC

Accomplishments: Rescued another hostage in Arkham City (only 200 riddles to go – take that, Riddler!), played a lot of Max Payne 3 online for our multiplayer review, and finally unlocked the MotorStorm RC platinum trophy.

What I’m watching and reading: Started reading The Subtle Knife, and got all patriotic watching the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

What I’m playing: I played LittleBigPlanet 2 on PS3, thanks PS Plus!, and Tiger Woods 13 with family. On Vita, I played a little UMvC 3 and a lot of LEGO Harry Potter Years 5-7.

Accomplishments: We played Tiger Woods 13 with the Move controller for the first time. Major learning curve. Downloaded the Marvel and Muppets level kits for LBP2, those are a lot of fun. Nearly finished LEGO Harry 2 on Vita. Sent message-game invites out for Hustle Kings and eliminated some zomb…err…”mutants” in House of the Dead Overkill Extended Cut.

What I’m watching and reading: I started reading The Hunger Games and have been watching nothing but E3 videos all week.

What I’m playing: LittleBigPlanet 2, Warhammer 40,000:Space Marine and Virtua Figther 5 Final Showdown have all gotten a spin in the system. If Sony keeps this up a new hard drive is in my future.

Accomplishments: I’m really loving Mortal Kombat on Vita, fatalities with a touch screen? Totally works and feels good too.

What I’m watching and reading: Mostly E3 coverage and my bank account shrink after buying a bunch of Vita games.
