Ubisoft’s Watch Dogs confirmed for 2013
It seemed like Ubisoft was content to end its brilliant E3 keynote on a chilled-out note with a cheerful eSports promotion with ShootMania. We already had the eye-catching Assassin’s Creed 3 and Far Cry 3, alongside some fan-pleasing footage of Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Backlist and Rayman Legends. It was a solid performance, but it would have been an odd way to finish considering all the great stuff that we had seen.
Ubisoft did have one more surprise in the bag, however. It came in the form of Watch Dogs, a new IP led by Ubisoft Montreal which appears to combine the open world design of Grand Theft Auto with the slick style of Hitman and the themes of Deus Ex. Ubisoft showed a cryptic teaser followed by a lengthy demo. Check it out below:
It is clearly a beautiful looking game, but the demo was running on a PC – a high-end one at that no doubt – so we would like to see how it looks on PS3. But what pleased us most was the care that has been put into the finer touches. The way the demo effortlessly shifted between gears, the detailed presentation, solid acting and stylish animations; the use of hacking to cause a pile-up was also imaginative.
The official Twitter account for the game has confirmed that it will be out in 2013 on PC and consoles. You will certainly be hearing more about this.
