Final Fantasy XIII and XIII-2 director teases upcoming announcement
In an interview with Famitsu.com at last month’s Taipei Game Developers Conference, Toriyama was asked if we could expect something Final Fantasy XIII related at the upcoming Final Fantasy 25th Anniversary event. He said:
“The [FFXIII-2] Lightning download content had an ending that left a feeling mystery and hope. The day when the meaning of this will come to light is not too far off.”
We can read that as a yes, then. Less clear, however, is through which form can we expect to get these answers.
One option could be for Square Enix to send more Final Fantasy XIII-2 DLC our way. This would be a surprise, considering we were led to believe that the last batch of DLC was to be the, well, last.
Another possibility is that Final Fantasy XIII-3 could be in the works. Many have speculated this, including our very own Stefhutch20 in his review of the Lightning DLC. This is likely to be a divisive move, considering many fans questioned the need for Final Fantasy XIII-2.
We also probably shouldn’t rule out the possibility of a film tie-in, a PS Vita spin-off, an anime series, etc.
Square Enix is hosting a number of Final Fantasy related events around the world in commemoration of the series’ 25th Anniversary. The event Famitsu.com is referring to is a Final Fantasy art exhibition being held in Shibuya from 31 August to 2 September. Expect an announcement then.
