Platformer Knytt Underground coming soon to PS3 and Vita

Indie game franchise Knytt is coming later this year to the PS3 and PS Vita thanks to a partnership between the developer Nifflas, the production company Green Hill, and Ripstone Publishing.

Knytt Underground is the sequel to the PC platformers Knytt and Knytt Stories, which have boasted more than one million downloads globally. Both Green Hill and Nifflas will be handling the development of the new game, and Ripstone Publishing will be working on bringing the indie title to a wider audience.

“We’re extremely excited when we had the chance to team up with Nifflas to help him develop the PlayStation versions of Knytt Underground and to collaborate with each other to design the unique content that will be available for the PlayStation-versions of the game,” said Maarten de Koning, Managing Director & Co-Founder at Green Hill.

“Knytt Underground is the biggest game I’ve ever developed and is the first game where I feel that I have a story to tell. It’s about the big questions; trying to understand life and our place in it – and failing completely,” said Nicklas Nygren, Creative Director at Nifflas.

Both Knytt and Knytt Stories are available for free on Nifflas’ official website. Whether Knytt Underground will be free or not has yet to be revealed. We imagine it will follow the same visual style, though. While that may not be anything spectacular on the PS3, we could see the game fitting well on the Vita.
