GC2012; Media Molecule announces Tearaway
The hero is an unusual fellow named Iota who is a messenger from his world made out of paper. He wants to deliver a letter written specially for you and considering his head is an envelope, we imagine that’s where he will stow it away.
Media Molecule are really pushing the Vita’s capabilities to make an outstanding, unique game that is only possible on the handheld.
You can use the touch-screen to spin records, unfold paper bridges, bounce springs and most excitingly, you can use the rear touch pad to poke your fingers directly in to the game. Your fingers will show up virtually and you can then proceed to defeat enemies with intense prodding action.
You can shout in to the microphone to unleash a roar to frighten and blow away enemies or you can blow in to it to have a gust of wind blow paper down to make a bridge amongst other things.
Pete Smith, Director of Product Development at XDev Studio Europe, has said that while the game is still in development, the customisation of your fingers will make it look as if they are really yours. Tearaway currently features a fairly generic finger but once more of the Vita is utilised such as the camera, then the studio will be able to ‘map’ your digits.
There is currently no release date, but there is a colourful, adorable trailer that more than sells itself:
