PS3A PlayTime – week of 13 August, 2012

Submitted by on Monday, 20 August 2012One Comment

We’d all like to think that our spare time isn’t entirely consumed by relentlessly banging away at a keyboard, but is also spent mashing the buttons of our DualShock 3 controllers and Vitas. So why not share with you a little bit about the games that we have found the time to play amidst our busy summer schedules.

Gamescom, quite possibly the biggest gaming expo in the world with hundreds of thousands of people from all over coming to see what’s new from PlayStation. Not only did Sony bring the hurt, they brought it to those asking for more Vita games. Many new first party and third party games were announced, making Vita the talk of the town.

PS3 needs some lovin’ too, and its getting it with bells on. Sony introduced several new IPs for the PlayStation Network, PS Move, and the Wonderbook. BBC has stepped things up by introducing a unique use for the Wonderbook by way of Walking With Dinosaurs, immersing players in a visually stimulating edu-tainment gaming experience that could only be possible with Wonderbook, apparently.

Here are the three simple questions the PS3 Attitude writing staff has been asked to answer. Though, we want to hear your answers as well. Keep us informed in the comments section at the bottom of the post.

  1. What games have you been playing this week?
  2. Did you accomplish something cool?
  3. What are you watching or reading?

What I’m playing: This week I played a whole raft of games at GamesCom in Cologne, including Sly Cooper, PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale, Assassin’s Creed III and more.

Accomplishments: One of the more memorable moments included defeating two other ships, then disabling a third, in order to board it and take control within ACIII – the controls were superb, and the action was near-perfect.

What I’m watching and reading: Watched Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol finally, and Man on a Ledge. MI was good throwaway fun, and while Man on a Ledge was entirely predictable it was enjoyable.

What I’m playing: MotorStorm Apocalypse, LittleBigPlanet 2, Darksiders II, Gravity Rush.

Accomplishments: I’ve learned that MotorStorm Apocalypse is actually quite generous after winning a race despite crashing almost every 5 seconds.

What I’m watching and reading: Been watching The West Wing, Harry Potter, The Devils, Centurion and Frasier.

What I’m playing: Dragon Age II, Sound Shapes

Accomplishments: Sound Shapes has been a bit of a revelation for me this week. I always knew it would be fantastic from an audio/visual standpoint, but what surprised me was just how fun the gameplay is (even though some of the Death Mode levels are driving me insane!).

What I’m watching and reading:  I’ve been catching up on the TV I missed when the Olympics was on!

What I’m playing: This week was a PSN type week. Played Papo and Yo and Legasista. Oh, and Sound Shapes, too.

Accomplishments: I managed not to cry while playing Papo and Yo which should be an achievement in itself. Unfortunately, there’s no trophy for that.

What I’m watching and reading: Went oldschool and watched some Invader Zim. Shame it had to end.

What I’m playing: Played some Rock Band 3 this week.

Accomplishments: I unlocked a trophy in Rock Band 3 when I didn’t expect to unlock anymore. Many of them are a long journey to achieve. I also revisited Touch My Katamari on Vita; bested some old scores. I’m such a neat freak and rolling up junk is my “cup of tea.”

What I’m watching and reading: I did get out to watch The Expendables 2 in the theater. Not going to spoil it, but Jason Stathom is the flippin man! Arnold and Van Damme are old (as are they all), and Stallone needs to hire new cameramen. Stathom came out looking a little too much Ezio in the church scene, anyone else notice that?

What I’m playing: Sleeping Dogs, Just Cause 2 (free on PS+), Dead Space 2, LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes, Mortal Kombat , Darksiders, Rock of Ages, Sonic Adventure HD, Treasures of the Montezuma Blitz.

Accomplishments: Not much of an achievement but I’m glad that I can still rock with Sonya on MK’s harder difficulties. Use to play it almost everyday, haha.

What I’m watching and reading: How I Met Your Mother, Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, The Big Bang Theory. Been reading bits of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.
