PS3A PlayTime – week of 20 August, 2012

Submitted by on Monday, 27 August 2012No Comment

Come join us for another week of reflection. Where we realize that our spare time isn’t entirely consumed by banging away at a keyboard, but also by mashing the buttons of our DualShock 3s and Vitas. So why not share with you a little bit about the games that we have found the time to play amidst our busy summer schedules.

Last week was one of the most jam packed for the PS Store and its weekly offerings. How many of us afforded the chance to download and play Papo & Yo? Did we close the deal on Sound Shapes with PlayStation’s easiest double-platinum ever? And how many of us are still reading?

In the US, school has begun for little ones everywhere (my daughter last week and David Jaffe‘s today) and households just got a bit quieter for half of the day. Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater HD, Rock Band Blitz, Psychonauts, and lots of PlayStation Collections will be making their way to the PlayStation Store tomorrow. And London has the 2012 Paralympics starting in just two days.

So here are three simple questions the PS3 Attitude writing staff has been asked to answer. While our answers are fabulous, we really want to hear what you have to say. A lot of platinum trophies were unlocked amongst the PS3 Attitude team, who’s reigns supreme? Keep us informed in the comments section at the bottom of the post.

  1. What games have you been playing this week?
  2. Did you accomplish something cool?
  3. What are you watching or reading?

What I’m playing: Everybody’s Golf on the Vita – both Challenge and online Tournament modes

Accomplishments: So it appears you don’t unlock the Platinum levels when you beat the ‘final’ character. Oh no. It would seem you have to unlock every variant of every character before they open up, and to do that you need to get crowns on every challenge. I’m now furiously playing through every level a half-a-dozen times to get that ‘rising shot’, ‘pin strike’, ‘three birdies in a row’ or whatever they throw at me. The platinum levels shall be mine!

What I’m watching and reading: I’ve been catching up on Strike Back and am now up-to-date, ready for the season two finale and the beginning of season three in September.

What I’m playing: Gravity Rush and Battlefield 3

Accomplishments: Players still refuse to change class in Battlefield 3. Pinned in by an organised team with a tank on Seine Crossing yet no one but me changed into an engineer. So frustrating.

What I’m watching and reading: I’m still catching up on old TV series. This week it’s Life on Mars and Firefly. Can’t believe I’ve taken this long to watch LoM.

What I’m playing: Dragon Age II, Virtua Tennis 4: World Tour Edition

Accomplishments: After nearly a year and a half, I finally unlocked the platinum trophy in Dragon Age II. That might sound like a long time, but it’s still a year less than it took me to get the Dragon Age: Origins platinum, so I’m pretty happy with that!

What I’m watching and reading: Person of Interest and the Once Upon a Time season finale.

What I’m playing: Sounds Shapes and Legasista. Have yet to delve into any of Sound Shapes’ online modes, but that will be next on my agenda.

Accomplishments: Platinum’d Sound Shapes; my first platinum trophy for the Vita.

What I’m watching and reading: Reading “Tales from Development Hell” by David Hughes. It’s an interesting book about all the films the never got made (or took forever to do so).

What I’m playing: Sound Shapes, The Pinball Arcade, Way of the Samurai 4, and Lights,Camera,Party.

Accomplishments: I finally acquired my first platinum for the Vita with Sound Shapes (Majiesto copied me). I was extremely gratified by it after having been pummeled mentally and physically by the Death Mode levels. Those were quite the throwback to my testing days, trying to reproduce a once crash bug. A lot of repeating my failures until finally nailing the goal and then never ever playing it again. But I do wish there were a ton more of those beat match levels.

What I’m watching and reading: I’ve been reading a lot of documents from my daughter’s new school. Does that count? Watching Castle season 4 and Grimm on Hulu+ for PS3.

What I’m playing: Sleeping Dogs, Darksiders 2, Ghost Recon: Future Soldier (offline), Bejeweled 2, Treasures of the Montezuma Blitz, Just Cause 2, Dyad demo, Retro/Grade demo and Dead or Alive 5 demo.

Accomplishments: [An interesting moment in gaming] Having intercourse with a masseuse on Sleeping Dogs and her saying that she’s having trouble standing.

What I’m watching and reading: Pixars Brave which was brilliant, The Big Bang Theory, Lemon La Vida Loca, The Xtra Factor (Sunday TV doesn’t offer much!), Rude Tube (YouTube compilation show).
