PS3A PlayTime – week of 30 July, 2012
Writing about games and playing games are a couple of the things that we here at PS3 Attitude do best. So why not share with you a little bit about the games that we have found the time to play amidst our busy summer schedules.
We welcome August and all the precious games that follow. Sound Shapes hits PS3 and PS Vita simultaneously in North America this week. Metal Gear Solid 4 has received a title update bringing long awaited and oft requested trophies to the venerable stealth action epic.
Last week wasn’t much of a spectacle for new releases, though if you’re anything like us, then you’ve upgraded your PS3 hard drive to 1TB just to fit every single free PS Plus game available in fear of the end of the world. Don’t want to be caught with our pants down and no games to play after the apocalypse. Hopefully, the fine people of Mars don’t give NASA’s Curiosity rover a parking ticket. Its driver might miss the court date and that could lead to an interplanetary war.
Here are the three simple questions the PS3 Attitude writing staff has been asked to answer. Though, we want to hear your answers as well. Keep us informed in the comments section at the bottom of the post.
- What games have you been playing this week?
- Did you accomplish something cool?
- What are you watching or reading?
What I’m playing: I’m still cracking through Everybody’s Golf on the Vita.
Accomplishments: I ‘completed’ the game this week. In other words, I saw the credits, unlocked the Platinum levels and opened up the Crown descriptions so that I know how to get those elusive ‘extra credit’ rounds. I also unlocked my first VS2 bonus character, and beat her. All in all, a pretty decent week, despite the fact I play it for just about 10-15 minutes a day!
What I’m watching and reading: It is all about Team GB and the Olympics right now. I just witnessed the greatest day in recent British sporting history with six gold medals, three on the athletics track. We haven’t won that many in a day for over 100 years. Per capita, we have more gold medals than any country. Our greatest team? I would say so…
What I’m playing: Shift II and MotorStorm Apocalypse.
Accomplishments: It’s been a week of few highlights, but I’m always delighted when I beat a mate’s score on autolog.
What I’m watching and reading: It’s all been about watching TeamGB perform brilliantly at the Olympics and finally shake off that “plucky losers” tag. Also watched the brilliant Warrior and revisited The Prestige. It’s one of Nolan’s least discussed films, but it’s still a real gem.
What I’m playing: Rayman Origins and Uncharted: Golden Abyss, among many other Vita games.
Accomplishments: I was really enjoying Uncharted: Golden Abyss until the first boss fight, which forces you to perform various swipes on the touchscreen with frustrating precision. It was bad enough on Hard difficulty, so I amnot looking forward to my Crushing playthrough!
What I’m watching and reading: The Olympics hasn’t been off my TV all week – it’s enough to make you proud to be British!
What I’m playing: Played Quantum Conundrum. I just can’t get enough of that fluffy dimension.
Accomplishments: Can’t wait to play Metal Gear Solid 4 again this week for trophies. Been waiting years for this!
What I’m watching and reading: Saw the Total Recall remake. It looked very pretty but was lacking overall.
What I’m playing: Skyrim, Skyrim and Skyrim. Also the Ratchet and Clank Trilogy.
Accomplishments: Recently discovered that if I don’t do the Thieve’s Guild quest to return the skeleton key, I get to keep it. Score.
What I’m watching and reading: Going through Cowboy Bebop again, as well as reading the SCP library, “Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality” and “The Thirteen and a Half Lives of Captain Bluebear”.
What I’m playing: Played some Treasures of Montezuma Blitz, Mortal Kombat, Uncharted Golden Abyss, Hot Shots Golf, and Virtua Tennis 4 all on Vita. Played Assassin’s Creed II and Rock Band III on PS3.
Accomplishments: Took 1st in the last ToMB tournament. Started the next week’s tournament off to an excellent start with over 17 million. Taking out all my friends scores in RBIII is fun. Expert Guiter and Pro Drums for the win. I have the midi adapter for my midi keyboard, but still not very good. If only it had support for trumpet.
What I’m watching and reading: I finally made it to the theater to watch The Dark Knight Rises. Afterward, I was motivated to a couple Tom Hardy movies such as Warrior and the very british story of Bronson on Netflix. I wonder how many other people went onto Netflix and watched Warrior after Batman.
What I’m playing: Payday: The Heist (offline), Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe (offline), The Amazing Spider-Man, Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 (offline), X-Men: Destiny, Treasures of the Montezuma Blitz, Escape Plan, Frobisher Says!, Dead Island (online), Quantum Conundrum, BlazBlue: Continuum Shift (offline) and Saints Row 3 (offline).
Accomplishments: A memorable moment for me this week was playing the final mission of Saints Row 3 to the tune of ‘I Need A Hero’. The adrenaline. I really enjoyed it and was quite chuffed for finishing it after a really irritating mission near the end, haha.
What I’m watching and reading: I’ve been reading The Amazing Spider-Man: The Night Gwen Stacy Died (growing my Spidey collection and they’re great!), I’ve been watching The Cube, Mad Mad World, Lemon Da Vida Loca and some awful 50 Shades of Grey programme because others were watching it on TV. It was hilarious, but awkward.
