PS3A PlayTime – week of 10 September, 2012
Come join us once a week where we prove that our spare time isn’t entirely consumed by pounding away at a keyboard, but also by mashing the buttons of our DualShock 3s and Vitas. So why not share with you a little bit about the games that we have found the time to play amidst our busy summer schedules.
Nearly everything that came out this past week is about to be trumped by the release of Borderlands 2. It will be available in North America tomorrow, 18 September, both in retail and on the PlayStation Store on the same day. Amazon.co.uk shows a release date of 21 September. If you haven’t noticed the boxart for the German release, it makes it clear that the game is “100% Uncut“.
LittleBigPlanet Vita made the news over the weekend when it was officially released ahead of schedule, sort of. Initially designated for a mid-summer release, it was later pushed back to late September to add polish. We’ve a couple reviews for you to read and other tops stories so take a look below. Don’t forget to see what we’ve all been playing this week.
What I’m playing: I know what you’re thinking. “He’s been playing Everybody’s Golf again”. Wrong! After that week off gaming, I decided I needed to regain the variety in my life. I’ve been playing Sound Shapes on the Vita and PS3, Ecolibrium on the Vita and Journey on PS3.
Accomplishments: Nothing quite prepared me for the genius of the Beck ‘album’ in Sound Shapes, especially the first level. Utterly stunning. Also, playing Journey again has reminded why it was so lauded by everyone in the PS3 Attitude team. Amazing at every level…
What I’m watching and reading: Other than getting some gaming in once again, I’ve been watching a little CSI: Miami. Every time Horatio speaks, I just hear ‘I’m Batman’ in my head.
What I’m playing: I’ve had a good mix this week. A bit of Ecolibrium (was 323 in the world at one point), some Treasures of Montezuma, plenty of Zen Pinball 2, a little Treasure Park and a lot of Damage Inc. Pacific Squadron WWII.
Accomplishments: Ecolibrium has been turning me into an economist. I’ve been sitting with Vita in one hand and a calculator in the other, trying to form growth charts. Maths isn’t my strong point so it’s been a struggle. Time to get Excel out.
What I’m watching and reading: I’ve been watching the brilliant Life on Mars. Constantly inventive and packed with laugh-out-loud moments. Also watched the Rum Diary which was decent, and I continued with Frasier – the episode in which the station performs a radio murder mystery drama is just genius.
What I’m playing: Went on a roadtrip this week so played lots of Zen Pinball 2. My almost three year old niece also had a blast coloring with Paint Park.
Accomplishments: No real achievements this week other than the fact that I got some time to relax a bit.
What I’m watching and reading: Catching up on the previous season of Parks and Recreation.
What I’m playing: Tekken Tag Tournament 2 on PS3, Rayman Origins and Treasures of Montezuma Blitz on Vita.
Earned my first trophy in weeks on Treasures of Montezuma Blitz, and subsequently discovered that they now sync to the PSN server. Apparently they have done ever since the latest Vita firmware update – rejoice!
What I’m watching and reading: Started the first season of Lost, which I’m re-watching for the fourth or fifth time.
What I’m playing: Way of the Samurai 4, Rock Band Blitz, Jet Set Radio, and Ratchet & Clank on PS3. ToMB, Pinball Arcade, Zen Pinball 2, BlazBlue: Continuum Shift Extend on Vita.
Accomplishments: Nearly completed the tutorial for BlazBlue on Vita. That is a very technical fighter and I’m loving it. Working on getting all trophies for Pinball Arcade, and I’m making some real progress. Zen Pinball 2 has great leaderboards if you’ve got friends playing it with you online.
What I’m watching and reading: Watching Season 4 of Castle, reading Heat Rises in the Kindle App for Android.
