PS3A PlayTime – week of 3 September, 2012

Submitted by on Monday, 10 September 2012No Comment

Come join us for another week of reflecting wildly into the games we’ve played. Where we realize that our spare time isn’t entirely consumed by banging away at a keyboard, but also by mashing the buttons of our DualShock 3s and Vitas. So why not share with you a little bit about the games that we have found the time to play amidst our busy summer schedules.

Talk about an eventful week for Vita and PSN. Zen Pinball 2 rocked PSN and Vita with its free-ness and being all Cross Buy right out the gate. Although, you may have experienced a little difficulty trying to download tables and packs due to a category snafu on the PlayStation Store. All of the DLC was labeled “Vita”, but in case you didn’t notice, tables that were for PS3 did not say “Vita” in the actual DLC title even though it did at the top of the DLC.

The Pinball Arcade followed through with Table Pack 3, introducing Gorgar and Monster Bash. Both are excellent tables although decades apart. FarSight Studios also had a problem after unleashing a patch over the weekend to North America that was meant to fix a few table specific items and ended up disallowing all DLC tables from appearing in the game if the resolution had been set to 480 or 720. That’s a pretty huge oversight and they intend to prevent it from ever happening as well as gift PSN customers with a custom pinball for use in game.

There were loads of highlights other than pinball, but what can we look forward to? Jet Set Radio hits PSN for PlayStation Plus subscribers, everyone else will have to wait. The new Double Dragon Neon and Scott Pilgrim vs The World will be free starting tomorrow for PS Plus subscribers (NA) as well. Europe is getting the oppurtunity to subscribe to PS Plus at a 25% discount. Full details on the EU PlayStation Blog.

So here are three simple questions the PS3 Attitude writing staff has been asked to answer. While our answers are fabulous, we really want to hear what you have to say. A lot of platinum trophies were unlocked amongst the PS3 Attitude team, who’s reigns supreme? Keep us informed in the comments section at the bottom of the post.

  1. What games have you been playing this week?
  2. Did you accomplish something cool?
  3. What are you watching or reading?

What I’m playing: I’m afraid I’ve been travelling or working for the last seven days, so I actually had one of those rare moments; a gaming-free week. Maybe there should be a trophy for that…

Accomplishments: That means I have no exciting things to report on the gaming front. No cool trophies. No awesome happenings. No rising pin shots in Everybody’s Golf.

What I’m watching and reading: It also means that – apart from a couple of hours of Paralympics coverage, I’ve been focused on other things. All work and no play makes Dolph an unhappy boy, so I’ll be doing what I can to rectify this. At least I got the chance, while on the road, to have dinner with Seanoc…

What I’m playing: Jumped into Treasure Park and even revisited Darksiders I, but this week has once again been taken over by FIFA Football.

Accomplishments: My pro is now around 80% of the way through his achievement list and captaining Barca in FIFA Football. Give him another week and I think he’ll be a legend.

What I’m watching and reading: I got round to watching The Skin I Live In this week and I’m not sure what to think of it. It’s bizarre, entertaining, creepy and even a little touching at points. Yet I couldn’t help but feel a little uncomfortable about the role of women in the film.

What I’m playing: Dragon Age II, Machinarium and Sleeping Dogs on PS3, Tales from Space: Mutant Blobs Attack and Zen Pinball 2 on Vita.

Accomplishments: When I started playing Machinarium, I promised myself I wouldn’t look up any hints; I broke that promise after about ten minutes. I normally hate point-and-click adventure games, so the fact that I made it to the end of Machinarium (even if I did use a hint or two!) is a testament to how good it is.

What I’m watching and reading: Just watched the Paralympics Closing Ceremony, after 11 days of inspirational sporting achievements.

What I’m playing: Zen Pinball 2. Zen Pinball 2. Zen Pinball 2. [PS3A Review here]

Accomplishments: Was 2nd in the leaderboards on Plants vs. Zombies Pinball for a while but that was right when the game came out. Now I’m way further down on the list 😉

What I’m watching and reading: The classic 90’s TV show Dinosaurs was added to Netflix so I’ve been watching a lot of that. Not the mama!

What I’m playing: LEGO Harry Potter Years 1-5 (Vita), Lights, Camera, Party! (PS3), Virtua Tennis 4: World Tour (Vita), Way of the Samurai 4 (PSN), and a whole lot of pinball!!!

Accomplishments: I finally got the platinum in LEGO Harry Potter on Vita. The next task is getting rid of it. Also, finally completed the story mode in Virtua Tennis only to discover I didn’t do a lot of stuff and will have to do it all over again. Lights, Camera, Party! was fun, but check out what I really thought about it here.

What I’m watching and reading: Reading a lot of RSS feeds this week, but not a lot of interested news coming out of Android this week. There was only one from Phandroid about why the Note 2 isn’t getting a 13MP shooter. Finished reading Charlotte’s Web to my daughter and started Pipi Longstockings. Watched Safe starring my boy Stathom!!!

What I’m playing: Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, Sleeping Dogs, Zen Pinball 2, Final Fantasy VII, Rayman Origins, Rayman 1, Resident Evil 1, Street Fighter x Tekken, Resistance: Burning Skies, Final Fantasy XIII-2.

Accomplishments: My girlfriend pointed out how weird it is to fight Doc Octopus on Zen Spider-Man, made me laugh as I never thought about how crazy that was, haha.

What I’m watching and reading: Harry Potter (first 3 movies), The Big Bang Theory, How I Met Your Mother, Lemon La Vida Loca, The X-Factor (not my choice xD). Been reading some Harry Potter, too.
