Sony celebrates 5 million PS3 sales in the UK
Sony Computer Entertainment has announced that PlayStation 3 sales in the United Kingdom have reached 5 million. The news comes two weeks after the launch of the 500GB Super Slim model, which, along with the 12GB model launching tomorrow, will surely bolster sales even further in the run up to Christmas.
Speaking on the sales milestone, Fergal Gara, VP and Managing Director of PlayStation in the UK & Ireland, said the following:
“This is another historic moment for the PlayStation brand, and something I’m incredibly proud of. I’d like to thank all our consumers, retailers and 3rd party partners for helping us achieve this figure, and look forward to continued success.”
Yes, it may have taken the PS3 five and a half years to achieve what the PS2 managed in a little over three, but this generation is far from over and, in many ways, the PlayStation brand is still only gaining momentum.
With the likes of LittleBigPlanet Karting and PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale just on the horizon, and God of War: Ascension, The Last of Us and Beyond: Two Souls after that, not to mention Sony’s recent acquisition of the cloud-gaming company Gaikai, there’s still plenty of life in the old black box yet.
