PS3A PlayTime – week of 1 October, 2012
Come join us once a week where we prove that our spare time isn’t entirely consumed by pounding away at a keyboard, but also by mashing the buttons of our DualShock 3s and Vitas. So why not share with you a little bit about the games that we have found the time to play amidst our busy summer schedules.
PlayStation Mobile is live and thriving. An all new PlayStation platform joins the Vita alongside PSN games and the video service with over 20 titles to choose from. While most are smaller, bite-sized mobile games, playing them on the Vita with physical buttons is like nothing else!
Dishonored blew us away, and the media as a whole seems to be pretty impressed. The game is fully available on PSN for North America tomorrow as part of the Day 1 Digital offerings and alongside the blu-ray retail release. We are expecting a ton of new content on PSN for PS3 and Vita, including The Unfinished Swan and Retro City Rampage.
Let’s take a look at the posts of the past seven days:
What I’m playing: Red Dead Redemption, Ecolibrium, Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee, Gran Turismo 5.
Accomplishments: I had such a great time revisiting Abe’s Oddysee. The gameplay holds up so well. Most devs can only dream of having this much humour and satire in their games.
What I’m watching and reading: I watched Drive the other day, and since then I’ve had the soundtrack on repeat. I just can’t get enough of it. Other entertainment includes Fraiser, the Thick of It and The West Wing.
What I’m playing: Just started Resident Evil 6. So far, it’s not as bad as everyone says it is. Also been playing MLB Dream Nine on Facebook.
Accomplishments: Fun fact. Don’t play Resident Evil 6 until 1 in the morning. Weird dreams will inhabit your mind!
What I’m watching and reading: Watched the Braves get eliminated from the playoffs (boo!) but the Falcons go to a 5-0 record (yay!). It’s been a rollercoaster weekend for Atlanta sports fans.
What I’m playing: Dead or Alive 5, Dishonored, LittleBigPlanet PS Vita, a few PlayStation Mobile launch games.
Accomplishments: It’s a good job Dishonored isn’t a pure stealth game, otherwise I’d still be writing the review now. I’m much too impatient to scope out the area and come up with a feasible plan, so I invariably ended up charging in headfirst and hoping for the best – I only died half of the time.
What I’m watching and reading: Finally finished The Amber Spyglass and now wondering what to read next. The Lost marathon is still going strong (which is more than can be said for Boone).
What I’m playing: LittleBigPlanet Vita, LEGO Batman 2: DC Superheroes Vita, Joe Danger, Ratchet & Clank
Accomplishments: Downloaded LBP Vita and haven’t looked back. Had to buy it with my own money, gladly of course, so no review copy was given to me. The game is super deep, and a full LBP experience PLUS it takes advantage of every single input feature of the Vita. Can’t wait for the Cross Controller update for LBP2 on PS3.
What I’m watching and reading: Watching Castle Season 4 and 5, and the latest season of Bones.
What I’m playing: Borderlands 2, Dead or Alive 5, Resident Evil 6, Hell Yeah! Wrath of the Dead Rabbit, WipEout 2048, Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 Vita, Dragon’s Dogma.
Accomplishments: Trying to explain Hell Yeah! was quite funny, especially as my drill was a doughnut.
What I’m watching and reading: How I Met Your Mother (season 8, yay!), The Big Bang Theory. Harry Potter for books.
