PS3A PlayTime – week of 24 September, 2012
Come join us once a week where we prove that our spare time isn’t entirely consumed by pounding away at a keyboard, but also by mashing the buttons of our DualShock 3s and Vitas. So why not share with you a little bit about the games that we have found the time to play amidst our busy summer schedules.
The crew in Europe has taken up arms at this year’s Eurogamer Expo. They will tell you there was just too many games to play that they couldn’t enjoy themselves, or all work no play, but that’s just code for “this is awesome!” If you were fortunate enough to get out to the event yourself, tell us about your experiences in the comments section below.
Silverball Studios has three days left in the Pro Pinball Kickstarter. Are they going to reach their goal of $400k? This week, we fancied the number “5” in two epic features. One takes you to the couch to break in that new YouTube app for PS3, while the other removes the waggle and the wah-wah for a trip down memory lane with revolutionary gaming innovations as the headliner. Take a look at the posts of the past seven days:
What I’m playing: I’ve been playing a lot of Zen Pinball 2 this week on the Vita, plus a little Ecolibrium and Treasure Park. On the PS3, I managed to get some Tokyo Jungle in, but not nearly enough.
Accomplishments: Memorable moment? Getting to the top of the high score list on 9 tables against the rest of the PS3 Attitude team, and grabbing a few trophies along the way for collecting medals on the tables.
What I’m watching and reading: Haven’t watched much, but did go to Eurogamer Expo. From the ‘blockbuster’ games, I was most impressed by Hitman, Assassin’s Creed III and Far Cry 3. Tomb Raider is looking extremely promising too, and Dishonoured remains one of my tips for the top. Hell Yeah! is a superb little platformer that mixes ‘Sonic-style’ gameplay with Happy Tree Friends humour, and Tokyo Jungle was a real stand-out game too (I immediately bought it that night).
What I’m playing: Rather than list 20+ games – it was EGExpo week, after all – I’ll pick out some of the highlights: Dishonored and Hitman for empowering the player; Assassin’s Creed 3 for being majestic; God of War for being the unstoppable force that it is; Grid 2 for its stunning visuals; Hell Yeah for being insane; Tomb Raider for reinventing, and finally Metal Gear Rising for having sublime gameplay.
Accomplishments: A surprising highlight of the week was using Near at the Expo. Over 200 Vitas nearby and a ton of Treasure Park puzzles acquired. Everyone’s playing LittleBigPlanet Vita, apparently.
What I’m watching and reading: I’m working through the Harry Potter Blu-ray box set. Gary Oldman has just arrived so things are definitely on the up!
What I’m playing: Didn’t have much time this week to play anything, not even the Vita on the go.
Accomplishments: While there were really no memorable moments for myself, my friend got married on Sunday. So, Marriage Gold Trophy unlocked?
What I’m watching and reading: Picked up “The Avengers” on Blu-ray. Fantastic film and one of the best of the year!
What I’m playing: Dead or Alive 5, LittleBigPlanet PS Vita, tons of games at the Eurogamer Expo
Accomplishments: Didn’t get into the Hideo Kojima developer session at the Expo, despite queuing for over an hour, along with dozens of other fans. A guy kept telling us we probably wouldn’t get in, but of course everyone ignored him – turns out he was right.
What I’m watching and reading: Just getting near the sad bit in The Amber Spyglass. Oh dear.
What I’m playing: Unit 13, Reality Fighters, Ratchet & Clank, Pinball Arcade, Assassin’s Creed II
Accomplishments: I scored big with some launch Vita titles like Unit 13. Hadn’t played it until now and man, it bums me out to think Zipper is gone after such a gem! I’m excited that EU will finally be getting a steady stream of table packs for Pinball Arcade as I can’t get enough of them.
What I’m watching and reading: Reading the internet, PlayStation Mobile is coming this week!
What I’m playing: Treasures of the Montezuma Blitz, Hustle Kings, Crash Bandicoot 2, Final Fantasy VII, and loads of Eurogamer Expo titles.
Accomplishments: I played Dishonored.at EG and felt like a total idiot when I got stuck. But I also won the DoA5 Hitomi hoody!
What I’m watching and reading: Deus Ex: The Icarus Effect and Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. Both books.
