PS3A PlayTime – week of 12 November, 2012

Submitted by on Tuesday, 20 November 2012No Comment

Come join us once a week where we prove that our spare time isn’t entirely consumed by pounding away at a keyboard, but also by mashing the buttons of our DualShock 3s and Vitas. What games have we been playing? What cool adventures have we been on? It’s PlayTime!

Viva la Vita! As the pinnacle portable gaming experience from Sony finally gets its PlayStation Plus service, subscribers will get some free games. And those looking to pick up the 5″ OLED wonder this holiday season can score some solid savings at retail and online in most regions, especially wherever Black Friday is a thing.

We’ve highlighted a few titles this past week including Grand Theft Auto V, the next Tomb Raider, and Portal 2 with the In Motion DLC. PlayStation All-Stars plans on expanding its roster further with Kat from Gravity Rush and Emmett from Starhawk. Both will be available as DLC early next year.

PlayStation Mobile is on all our minds as our own features sub-editor Stefhutch20 speaks with FuturLab about the awesome and affordable Fuel Tiracas, the challenging Beats Slider, and their thoughts on the state of the PlayStation Mobile platform.

Let’s take a look at the posts of the past seven days:

What I’m playing: This week I have continued to enjoy both LittleBigPlanet Karting and Zen Pinball 2. Yes, we’re still battling with little chrome balls at Attitude Towers.

Accomplishments: Most memorable moment for me this week was the realisation that I’m actually not bad at the Moon Knight table in Zen Pinball. I feel I can go much further than the 130m+ score I posted, but I’m going to focus on defeating Kosmo next on the Street Fighter II table. I came within 13m of his top score last night, so it is only a matter of time…

What I’m watching and reading: I’ve had a little time to catch up on a few things this week. Best; Hunted. Continues to impress and perplex in equal parts, with an outstanding performance by Melissa George. Equal Worst;  The Devil Inside, which was as dull as dishwater and Don’t Look Up, which was terribly acted and massively mishandled by Fruit Chan – I also fear Hideo Nakata has run out of ideas when it comes to writing horror scripts, which is a shame.

What I’m playing: Played Zen Pinball 2 and died a whole bunch in Demon’s Souls.

Accomplishments: While I didn’t reach Dolph’s 134mil high score on the Moon Knight table, I did manage to earn a respectable 80+mil score. One of these days I’ll catch up to you, Dolph. Just you wait!

What I’m watching and reading: Caught up on Season 3 of The Walking Dead. If you’re not watching this show, what’s wrong with you!?

What I’m playing: Assassin’s Creed III, Dead or Alive 5, Final Fantasy XIII, Smart As, Treasures of Montezuma Blitz.

Accomplishments: It’s been a productive week on ToM Blitz. I finally got the Precious Rain and Nuclear Blast trophies, and spent a bunch of crystals on upgrades because I couldn’t be bothered to wait until level 70. The only trophies I have left now are Denizen (which I am never, ever going to get!), and Fortunate Son (which I should be able to get in the next few weeks) – yay!

What I’m watching and reading:  It’s been ages since I last watched Friends, so I decided to start from the very beginning. I’d forgotten how very 90s the first couple of seasons are!

What I’m playing: LEGO Batman 2 (Vita), Resistance Burning Skies (Vita), Need For Speed Most Wanted (2012 Vita), Pinball everything (Vita), Wicked Monsters Blast! HD (PS3/Move).

Accomplishments: Platinumed two games early this week: LEGO Batman 2 for Vita, and Resistance Burning Skies for Vita. Resistance is quite possibly the easiest platinum to obtain on the handheld, though you’ll need to activate the online code to get the trophy for completing a single online multiplayer game. Otherwise, it was easy.

Need For Speed Most Wanted is a blast, there is so much to do. I was focused intently on finding gates, jack spots, and speed traps but now I’m doing the individual races per car. Wicked Monsters Blast! HD is a Move enabled shooter that is questionably advertised as for all ages.

What I’m watching and reading: Still watching shows like Sons of Anarchy and The Walking Dead season 2 on Netflix through PS3. But I’m about to buy a new TV to replace my Sony SXRD of 7 years and ready to go through my Blu-ray library!

What I’m playing: Call of Duty: Black Ops II, Jak and Daxter HD, Devil May Cry HD, Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception multiplayer, Sonic Generations, Assassin’s Creed III, Resident Evil 6.

Accomplishments: Fun times to be had on Black Ops II, especially when you foil your friends chance of winning on One in a Chamber and Gun Game, but nothing out of the usual to report!

What I’m watching and reading: The Big Bang Theory, How I Met Your Mother, Derren Brown’s Apocalypse. Finished reading Magic Study, now reading Fire Study.
