PS3A PlayTime – week of 19 November, 2012

Submitted by on Tuesday, 27 November 2012No Comment

Come join us once a week where we prove that our spare time isn’t entirely consumed by pounding away at a keyboard, but also by mashing the buttons of our DualShock 3s and Vitas. What games have we been playing? What cool adventures have we been on? It’s PlayTime!

You can probably blame the United States for the slow trickle of news and posts over the course of the last week. Thanksgiving is one of those holidays that no one can avoid, no matter how important video games may be to his or her career. Game companies close forcefully, writers take some much needed time off, and gamers keep on gaming.

One thing we saw was a plethora of wonderful advancements in the world of Vita. Is the PlayStation Vita dead? We say hell no! Far from it, and thanks to the introduction to PS Plus we are closer to realizing its true potential – and its sky high. Vita now has cloud saves, automatic updates, automatic trophy syncing, tons of useful software updates, and free games for our Instant Game Collections.

Resident Evil fans have something to get excited about as the world gets a day closer to its next Resident Evil game. In an backwards, but awesome, sort of way we come to discover that the 3DS game Resident Evil: Revelations may be coming to PlayStation 3 in the future. We’re all eager to find out for sure as this would be an opportunity for Capcom to reinvigorate Jill Valentine’s home console appearance.

Let’s take a look at the posts of the past seven days:

NA PlayStation Store Refresh: 20 November, 2012

Is the PlayStation Vita dead? Um, no.

What I’m playing: Zen Pinball 2 (naturally) and a couple of rounds of the slow-moving Treasure Park on the Vita.

Accomplishments: The multi-ball on the Street Fighter II table in ZP2 is probably the most brutal of any table, but this week I wasn’t helped by a small glitch that saw one ball get stuck just ahead of the boat jump while another seemingly leapt from the middle of the table directly past the flippers into the lost ball area. When I nudged the table to fix the boat jump, it went straight to ’tilt’ and I lost all the balls. I had to laugh…

What I’m watching and reading: Haven’t had much time for TV, books or movies this week, but did get a chance to read a few magazines while on the move. Thank goodness for Zinio on my Android tablet.

What I’m playing: Had a 13 hour bus ride this week so my Vita got all the Playtime. Got a lot of practice in PlayStation All-Stars: Battle Royale, played Uncharted: Golden Abyss thanks to PS+, and topped it off with Zen Pinball 2.

Accomplishments: Finally reached Trophy Level 16. Felt like I’d been at 15 for forever.

What I’m watching and reading: Been watching The Walking Dead. Season 3 is absolutely amazing. Now, if only I could find the urge to play the game everyone has been praising lately…

What I’m playing: Dead or Alive 5, Smart As, Zero Escape: Virtue’s Last Reward

Accomplishments: I’ve been ever so slightly obsessed with Zero Escape on Vita this week; by which I mean I’ve basically been playing it instead of sleeping. I don’t think I’ve ever played a more absorbing game, and I urge everyone who has even a passing interest in psychology to give it a try – I guarantee it’ll have you hooked within the first hour. The only reason I haven’t written a review is because I can’t tear myself away from actually playing it! It’s so good that I’m yet to start Persona 4: Golden, despite it arriving in the post a few days ago.

What I’m watching and reading: I’ve been too engrossed in Zero Escape for anything else – seriously, just buy it!

What I’m playing: I’ve been playing Smart As… daily. PS Plus on Vita has been amazing in the US. My favorite has been Gravity Rush, with Jet Grind Radio in close second. That has to be the best looking game on Vita I’ve ever played! The colors absolutely POP off the screen. I’m sitting on Sports Champions 2, LittleBigPlanet Karting, and PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale for PS3 because I’ve been playing a lot of PlayStation All-Stars on Vita. The best…!

Accomplishments: This week I got to start playing a lot of new games and have more to start, which means I won’t be completing much anytime soon. Sorry Assassin’s Creed II. My biggest accomplishment this week is easily beating PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale on the hardest difficulty with Nariko. It wasn’t the final boss battle that was hard, not at all. It was the 1v1 battle against Nariko’s rival Dante that had me hitting ‘Retry’ in smoldering frustration. PSASBR is an amazing game with tons to do. Unlockables remind me of SFIV, a lot.

What I’m watching and reading: I’m watching Jericho whenever I’m not watching Signing Time with my 21 month old son. He’s growing up so fast. I’ve also been keeping up on Bones and Castle as usual. The only reading I’ve been doing was research on a new TV to replace my old Sony SXRD with its defective optical block. Looks like I settled on a new Sony LED. Hopefully this one will last longer than 7 years.

What I’m playing: Assassin’s Creed III, Dead or Alive 5, Call of Duty: Black Ops II, Devil May Cry 1 HD, Ultimate Marvel VS Capcom 3 Vita, Sonic Generations.

Accomplishments: Me and my friend were the last 2 on a match of One in the Chamber and I went to dolphin dive from a ledge to escape, got caught, and lost the match. Was hilarious to see!

What I’m watching and reading: Watched Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, How I Met Your Mother, The Big Bang Theory, finished reading Magic Study.
