PS3A PlayTime – week of 26 November, 2012
Come join us once a week where we prove that our spare time isn’t entirely consumed by pounding away at a keyboard, but also by mashing the buttons of our DualShock 3s and Vitas. What games have we been playing? What cool adventures have we been on? It’s PlayTime!
This week’s news has that fighting game vibe to it. Dead or Alive 5 is coming to Vita and Injustice: Gods Among Us will be accommodating Deathstroke and his gunplay. It won’t be long before Ed Boon and the team at NetherRealm announce a couple more characters.
How about a developer interview with Playerthree, makers of the recently released Chronovolt for Vita (free with EU PS Plus) and Loot the Land on PlayStation Mobile? They took the time to answer our questions about PlayStation Mobile and the PS Vita. They closed with a few words about the future of PSM and a nice little surprise tease for Vita owners.
Let’s take a look at the posts of the past seven days:
What I’m playing: As usual, I’ve played a little Zen Pinball 2 this week as the internal Attitude Towers competition heats up, but I fear the days of smacking a shiny ball up a ramp are numbered; PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale arrived on PS3 and Vita, and has now taken over my life…
Accomplishments: There are almost too many moments in PSAS:BR to mention, but nothing quite beats the look on my face when I first dispatched all three opponents in one move using only a Level 1 Super – that was a special moment.
What I’m watching and reading: Other than gaming, I’ve managed to find time this week to catch up on Strike Force (nearly there; only two episodes to go). Don’t worry ‘Hunted’, I’ll be back for you soon.
What I’m playing: Lots of love for my Vita this week. Played Uncharted: Golden Abyss, Zen Pinball 2, Sine Mora, and Tales from Space: Mutant Blobs Attack.
Accomplishments: “Platinum’d” Mutant Blobs Attack. Amazingly fun game. Can’t wait for Guacamelee!
What I’m watching and reading: Walking Dead mid-season finale. Nuff said.
What I’m playing: PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale and Ratchet & Clank: QForce on PS3; Need for Speed: Most Wanted, Persona 4: Golden, Smart As and Zero Escape: Virtue’s Last Reward on Vita
Accomplishments: The first half of the week was once again dominated by Zero Escape: Virtue’s Last Reward. It takes a special game to still be entertaining after 40 hours, but with Zero Escape I was absorbed right up to the final twist (or rather, twists!). I played a bit of everything in the week’s second half, but the highlight was definitely Persona 4: Golden; it’s utterly bonkers and fantastically Japanese, but it’s also damn good fun and boasts some of the best localised voice-acting I’ve ever heard.
What I’m watching and reading: I’ve been watching the BBC’s 5-disc set of the 2012 Olympics, and reliving some of the awesome memories of the summer.
What I’m playing: I stuck almost entirely to PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale on Vita, but have also been playing pid on PS3 for my upcoming review. Couldn’t help it, I had to squeeze in some Zen Pinball 2 with the Fantastic Four table and nabbed a high score of over 90M. Whatcha’got?
Accomplishments: Other than the 90M in the Fantastic Four table, I have 60% of the trophies in PlayStation All-Stars and haven’t settled on any one character yet. I first beat the game with Nariko on the hardest difficulty, then conquered 100% of the General Trials. That taunt trial was a pain in the a$$. If you would like to learn my successful trick, let me know in the comments section below. Otherwise I’ll put it in my review.
What I’m watching and reading: The Walking Dead season 2, slowly but surely. I also watched some Jericho, Get the Gringo (Mel Gibson is old but still runs the same), and Slither with
What I’m playing: Dead or Alive 5, PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale (PS3 and Vita), Far Cry 3, Zone of the Enders 1 HD, Sonic Adventure 2, Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, Tekken Tag Tournament 2, Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed, Assassin’s Creed III, Cubix HD.
Accomplishments: My frustration at how Sonic Racing is a really difficult game can be seen as funny, but it really is a hard game. Much harder than the rest of the games I listed above!
What I’m watching and reading: How I Met Your Mother, The Big Bang Theory, Twilight: Breaking Dawn Part 1, Beauty and the Beast, Take Me Out, New Girl.
