Alien Breed Trailer Makes Us Feel Nostalgic

Submitted by on Thursday, 31 January 2013No Comment

alien-breedFor those of us old enough to remember the wonderful Commodore Amiga, very much the PS3 of its day (with the Atari ST playing the part of both the Xbox 360 and nemesis), Alien Breed – and the developers, Team 17 – hold a dear little place in our hearts.

Heavily influenced by the movie ‘Aliens’, this top-down shooter had a simple premise. Shoot the alien hoards. Find the lift to the next floor below. Set the self-destruct for the floor(s) above. Rinse and repeat.

Along the way, you would gain additional weapons, meet some fearsome boss characters and generally kick 16-bit butt. The gameplay was superb and the atmosphere of the game was spot-on for the genre.

Now, instead of a continuation of the Alien Breed ‘reboots’ that found us playing fairly generic 3D affairs, the PS3 and PS Vita are being treated to the original game.

Graphics come in two flavours – enhanced and original 16-bit – and the titles feature cross-save, local co-op, online co-op, leaderboards and trophies.

Check out the trailer below and tell us you don’t get that warm, fuzzy feeling of nostalgia…
