PS3A PlayTime – week of 25 December, 2012: Happy New Year Edition
Come join us once a week where we prove that our spare time isn’t entirely consumed by pounding away at a keyboard, but also by mashing the buttons of our DualShock 3s and Vitas. What games have we been playing? What cool adventures have we been on? It’s PlayTime!
Now that 2012 is official dead and gone, its reassuring to know that we all had a good time. With each generation of new gamer we brainwash, the industry welcomes a brand new generation of video game developers. 2012 was definitely the year of the Indie developer. We saw this with all the Kickstarter projects and Sony’s own Pub Fund program which helps to fund Indie developers.
Though our Game of the Year picks were all big budget blockbuster games available mostly on Blu-ray disc, we can’t forget about all the digital downloadable titles that caught our attention such as Journey, The Unfinished Swan, and The Walking Dead. What were your most memorable gaming moments of 2012?
Finally, let’s take a look at the posts from the last week of 2012:
NA PlayStation Store Refresh: 24 December, 2012 [most deals dissolved]
What I’m playing: Had a bit of fun this week. One of my Xmas gifts was the PS Move Steering Wheel. Much better than I anticipated, and a higher-than-usual build quality too. Played a lot of LittleBigPlanet Karting as a result, and then with my renewed love of the PS Move, I picked up my old copy of Sports Champions 2 and reminded myself how much fun the Move really is. My New Year’s Resolution is to play more Move titles…
Accomplishments: LBP Karting threw me more than one curve-ball this week, the most notable of which is the ‘boss battle’ against the Fireworm. Man alive! That’s one difficult task. Reminded me of the old days of gaming, where you’d die 20 times before levelling up.
What I’m watching and reading: I’ve been reading a lot of books and magazines of late. I’m currently knee deep in the latest editions of T3 and Stuff, trying to decide what my next gadget purchases might be.
What I’m playing: Oddworld Stranger’s Wrath (Vita), Zen Pinball 2, Spec Ops: The Line, and Retro City Rampage. I didn’t get any game for Christmas but I got money, which is just as good, right?
Accomplishments: Have put somewhat of a dent in my ever growing backlog of games. Looking forward to knocking more off the list in 2013.
What I’m watching and reading: Watched all the extended version of The Lord of the Rings trilogy and found out that Aragorn was 87! Who knew. Also, played Cards Against Humanity with friends. What a hilariously fantastic game.
What I’m playing: I played a lot of PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale on Vita. Also been playing pid, Knytt Underground, The Pinball Arcade, Udraw tablet games (only 3), and EyePet & Friends with my daughter.
Accomplishments: Its been a week of playing online against people ranked sky high compared to me just to get the final four trophies on the Vita version of PSASBR. Then, and only then, can I switch to the PS3 version. I’m still stuck trying to find the remaining 10 features in Assassin’s Creed II. Lastly, I was able to trump a bad bug in The Pinball Arcade that wouldn’t give me the Pinbot Master trophy even though all the standard goals were achieved. Just uninstalled and reinstalled, then did it all again. Fixed! I’m trying to get back into Unit 13 if anyone would like to help me.
What I’m watching and reading: For Christmas I received The Avengers, Finding Nemo, Brave, and the complete Indiana Jones Collection on Blu-ray. Which were for me and which were for my daughter? Hmm…
What I’m playing: Tales of Graces f, PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale, Hyperdimension Neptunia, Spec Ops: The Line, Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception, Pure Chess, Anarchy Reigns, Blazblue: Continuum Shift Extend Vita.
Accomplishments: In the past couple of weeks, I got my hands on my personal game of the year – Tales of Graces f, and have racked up an impressive amount of hours on it so far. I consider this memorable as I won’t be forgetting this game.
What I’m watching and reading: Started reading Resident Evil: City of the Dead. Been watching Big Bang Theory (now on blu-ray!), How I Met Your Mother, Batman: The Dark Knight Rises, Take Me Out and Easy A.
