PS3A PlayTime – week of 7 January, 2013
Come join us once a week where we prove that our spare time isn’t entirely consumed by pounding away at a keyboard, but also by mashing the buttons of our DualShock 3s and Vitas. What games have we been playing? What cool adventures have we been on? It’s PlayTime!
It’s safe to say that we’re officially back in the swing of things for the start of 2013. This week we’ve got two game reviews for you. Pid is a whimsical side-scrolling platformer with a unique navigational mechanic. Derrick the Deathfin is a papercraft side-scrolling adventure tribute to Ecco the Dolphin.
We’ve been hearing more about Disney’s next game in the Phineas and Ferb series as well as what is new in Tiger Woods PGA Tour 14. In 2013, we’re reminded of the games we’ve known about in 2012 and are soon to be releasing. Let’s take a look at the posts of the past seven days:

What I’m playing: I played an awful lot of Max Payne 3 this week. It has been on my ‘hit list’ for a while, but I just haven’t had the time to get into it. So glad I’ve picked it up at last…
Accomplishments: Not much to offer in terms of trophies, since Max Payne 3 is a little light on offering you awards for the standard Story Mode. In fact, I’ve only earned 3 trophies so far and I’m halfway through the campaign. When I get into the multi-player, things will change. Lots of really memorable moments though, although I hesitate to name them here in case I spoil the story for anyone!
What I’m watching and reading: I’ve stayed away from the TV to focus on getting back into gaming, but I have been reading lots of gadget magazines.

What I’m playing: Didn’t spend much time at home this week so my Vita got most of the playtime with Sine Mora and Earth Defense Force 2017.
Accomplishments: Nothing fancy here, unfortunately.
What I’m watching and reading: Watched the Atlanta Falcons win their first playoff victory in the Smith/Ryan era. Normally I’m not that talkative about sports, but this was well worth mentioning.

What I’m playing: Ninja Gaiden 3, Sonic and All-Stars Racing Transformed, Spyro: Year of the Dragon, Smart As…
Accomplishments: After a busy few weeks, I started a new job on Monday so once again didn’t have much free time. I did manage to squeeze in a little gaming though, and found out how awesome Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed is in the process. If all goes to plan, this week should give me more time to play (and write about!) games.
What I’m watching and reading: Despite promising myself every series that I’m not going to watch this time, I still find myself tuning into Celebrity Big Brother every night. Damn you, Channel 5!

What I’m playing: Pid, Knytt Underground, Michael Jackson The Experience (Vita), Need For Speed Most Wanted, Black Knight Sword
Accomplishments: Finished pid and wrote the review I hope people find helpful. It was a very frustrating game. Knytt Underground is the most fun I’ve had on my Vita since I got it. If you liked exploring through the 2D Metroid games and spelunking, you’ll love Kyntt Underground.
What I’m watching and reading: I saw Jack Reacher in the theater this weekend, starring Tom Cruise. It was good. How’s that for spoilers?

What I’m playing: DmC Devil May Cry, Hyperdimension Neptunia, Tales of Graces f, Anarchy Reigns, Devil May Cry 1 HD, Dead or Alive 5, Sleeping Dogs.
Accomplishments: I still feel the need to pause DoA5 whenever someone walks in the room depending on the outfit. Such a good game, but it harbours so much shame!
What I’m watching and reading: Been watching The Big Bang Theory on bluray. Still reading Resident Evil: City of the Dead.
