guacamelee image PS3A PlayTime: 8th 14th Apr 2013As always, we’ve been playing an extremely eclectic selection of games this week, from visual novels to JRPGs, 2D platformers to first-person shooters. The biggest hit of the week was undoubtedly DrinkBox’s Guacamelee!, which has been wowing us with its incessant charm and entertaining gameplay (keep your eyes peeled for a full review very soon!).

This week I have discovered a new handheld demon, destined to sap my life-force, removing the illusion of free-will and choice that I like to perpetuate. This devil’s name? Virtue’s Last Reward. I really wish I could say more, but to speak of anything I’ve experienced in my first 5 hours with this fiendish imp would cause you all to shriek ‘SPOILER!’ in my ears until tinnitus was the last of my worries. Suffice to say, I have at last found something that will stop me from endless hours of fitting blocks into each other to the backdrop of the same ten songs; yes – I’ve finally put Lumines: Electronic Symphony away for a week. Although the PS3 has been engaged in many hours of use this week, it has all been movie-related. The Hobbit was the highlight, with many other films scattered across various streaming service accounts. So, the Vita has had most of my gaming attention. It has even stayed by my bed at night while I test out this Wake-Up Club ‘social alarm clock’. It seems OK, but I don’t see it taking over from the alarm on my phone just yet…

Another week, another venture to the depths of Rapture. I only played BioShock 2 briefly this week, however. Some of the reason is because I had a hectic work schedule, but it’s mostly because I was busy playing Guacamelee! The game is absolutely fantastic and is filled with pop culture references and Easter eggs alluding to other games. DrinkBox Studios has done a brilliant job with Guacamelee! and I couldn’t applaud them enough. Already earned my 6th platinum trophy because of it, too. Yes, the game is that good. If you haven’t downloaded it yet, go do it right away. You won’t regret it.

Still been playing Persona 4 but not as much recently! Playing Persona 3 which I’m enjoying but it isn’t grabbing me like 4 had done, but that isn’t going to stop me pouring several hours in to it (90+ on 4 so far and I’m itching to start playthrough 2!). Also been playing Sonic Generations, Hyperdimension Neptunia Mk2, Dragonball Z: Ultimate Tenkaichi, FIFA Street and 3D Dot Game Heroes, all of which have been very enjoyable. I had to import 3D Dot Game Heroes but I love that it’s a total love letter to retro games from the art to the gameplay. Spoilers for next week: I’ll be playing a lot of Injustice: Gods Among Us. And Persona. Can’t forget about Persona.

Needless to say, I spent most of the past week on my new computer, playing everything from Mirror’s Edge and Portal to The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning (and basically any other game that I already owned on my laptop but could only get to run on pitifully low settings – let’s just say I don’t need to worry about that kind of thing anymore!). Once again, pretty much all my PlayStation-related gaming was done on the Vita. I finally completed Jetpack Joyride 100%, made a decent amount of progress on Dead or Alive 5 Plus and, most importantly, discovered the awesomeness of Guacamelee!
