Ubisoft drops a totally rad Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon video
Fresh off the smashing success that Far Cry 3 enjoyed at the tail end of 2012, Ubisoft aims grow the series’ ever-swelling wave of admiration with a DLC expansion that speaks to a nostalgia for all things gloriously 80’s. Leading up to the expansion’s May 1 target release, Ubisoft sought the help of Corridor Digital to bring some of the main themes to life.
It’s crazy, it’s ridiculous, it’s awesome. Check it out.
Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon will alter the tropical archipelago of Far Cry 3’s Rook Islands seemingly for a more urban, post-apocalyptic, apocalyptic (you read right) wasteland. Smartphones shall give way to VHS tapes, pirates replaced by cyborg ninjas, and vibrant, color-splashed landscapes step aside for a heavy dose of neon.
The video short, titled Blood Dragon: The Cyber War provides an introduction into the genesis of the ruthless hellscape fitting of a cyborg war. We never seem to learn that our own robots will eventually, inevitably turn against us. It reads as a passion project aimed as a love letter to the days when Saturday morning cartoons meant something and action movies simply were not budgeted for the luxury of multiple takes.
In the relatively short period of time with which the video game industry has been allotted to experiment with the implementation of downloadable content we’ve seen an array of add-ons hit the market. Of particular interest are those which exist close to if not completely outside their respective game’s canon such as that of the Borderlands franchise and Rockstar’s Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare.
The fact that these particular pieces of DLC stand on their own separates them from the often vanilla level packs and character skins which make up a large majority of that which is currently available. It is in this vein that Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon seeks to make it’s mark. All knowledge of the expansion gives reason to believe although Blood Dragon will feel and to some extent look like Jason Brody’s hero’s journey in Far Cry 3 with a distinct setting and reality.
Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon will be available for download on the PlayStation Store on May 1.
