E3 13; PS4 priced at $399 and will launch this holiday season

PS4Sony has revealed that the PlayStation 4 will cost $399/€399/£349 and will release in the US and Europe this holiday season.

The news comes from PlayStation’s annual E3 press conference, where Sony’s Andrew House announced the price, saying “it’s a very compelling price that offers incredible value given the amount of entertainment PS4 will provide to gamers over the next decade and beyond.”

True consumer ownership and consumer trust central to everything Sony does. For this reason, Sony is not implementing any type of DRM on its games, unlike Microsoft, and the PS4 does not always have to be connected online.

PlayStation Plus membership will also transfer to the PS4. Sony’s press conference also revealed that DRIVECLUB PS Plus Edition will be added to the Instant Games Collection upon launch. One thing that is changing is that online play will be moving behind a paywall and be only available to members of PS+.

There are currently more than 140 games globally in development for PS4 with more than 100 that will be available within the first year. We’ve already covered many of the games announced including Mirror’s Edge 2, Kingdom Hearts III, Final Fantasy XV, and The Order: 1866.

We’ll be on the E3 show floor all this week bringing you coverage on the latest games set for PS4, as well as PS3 and the PS Vita, so stay tuned to PS3 Attitude for the latest news.
