PS3A PlayTime: 24th-30th June 2013

the-last-of-us-imageAs you could probably expect from the way the whole PS3 Attitude team raved about it last time, The Last of Us has been all over this week’s play time once again. It’s pretty rare for every PS3A team member to play the same game within a single week (in fact, we’re not sure if it’s ever happened before!), which just goes to show how incredible Naughty Dog’s epic really is.

It will come as no wonder to anybody that my entire week has comprised of playing The Last of Us until ‘irresponsible o’clock’ every day. After concluding the thoroughly enthralling, electrifying, emotive and terrifying single player campaign (and starting the ‘Plus’ play through), I’ve been entirely pulled in by the outstanding multiplayer experience, which includes some of the finest soupçons I’ve witnessed in an online game; the story-based missions segment is a masterpiece. I’m fairly sure I’ll be eluding to all the same things next week, so I had better get the thesaurus ready to make this précis seem somehow altered in seven days. (Do you see what I did there?)

I was able to update and fix my PS3 on Thursday, which meant that by Friday I was playing The Last of Us. I’m currently about halfway through and am loving the story and gameplay. Everything so far has been amazing and I can’t wait to see how it all plays out. I’ve also been playing Zero Escape: Virtue’s Last Reward thanks to its addition to the PS+ Instant Games Collection. It seems like everyone here has nothing but praise for the game and I can see why. It’s like Saw meets Clue meets the prisoner’s dilemma; a great whodunnit.

I’ve been playing a lot of Toy Story 3 and Aliens: Colonial Marines. Whilst I love the former, the latter is pretty awful although it does have a strange force which compels you to play on. I’ve also been playing Dragonball Z: Ultimate Tenkaichi as I’m working my way to a platinum trophy, Resident Evil: Revelations, God of War: Ascension, Marvel vs. Capcom: Origins, Sonic the Fighters and Foosball 2012. I watched the original Mortal Kombat movie – which is amazing, if not for all the right reasons – and Wreck-it Ralph which is one of my all time favourite movies. I plan to get stuck into The Last of Us online in the week as well as Alchemist of Dusk, 007: Legends and Max Payne 3.

Unfortunately I was in bed with a cold in the middle of the week, although the good news is that it gave me a good excuse to finally see what all the fuss is about with The Last of Us. After the phenomenal opening, to be honest it took me a little while to get into (survival horrors aren’t exactly my favourite genre, so I kind of expected that), but by the end of the game Naughty Dog had completely won me over. I plan to take a bit of a break from it now to concentrate on some other games I’ve been playing recently (like Final Fantasy XIII and Zero Escape: Virtue’s Last Reward), but I’ll definitely return to TLOU soon for a NG+ playthrough!
