Metal Gear Solid 5 characters being sexualised to encourage cosplay and merchandise sales

Submitted by on Wednesday, 4 September 2013One Comment

Quiet.Metal Gear Solid has a history of providing revealing outfits for many female characters, but on his English Twitter, world-renowned game director Hideo Kojima has admitted that these outfits are created with the purpose of encouraging cosplay, to advertise the game, and selling merchandise.

Kojima claimed to ask series art director Yoji Shinkawa to make sniper Quiet more erotic, as her current outfit may be too difficult for many cosplayers to recreate.

Perhaps Quiet isn’t erotic enough, despite being dressed in torn tights and a bikini top?

Kojima says that we may see something like this in future for Quiet, as it’ll apparently be easier to recreate.

Kojima’s intentions are as clear as this outfit is revealing.

Whilst we understand that a business needs to make money and that cosplaying is a great form of advertising, we feel that a strong, fully-clothed female character can do just as well as an erotic, revealing one.

What are your thoughts on erotic outfits in Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain? Would they play a part in whether or not you bought a model based on that character? Let us know in the usual place below.
