Activision and Sony send tax-incentive warning to the UK

The fallout from the emergency budget on June 22, which saw the Chancellor of the Exchequer scrap proposed tax breaks for the UK games industry, is still causing ripples within the industry. Bobby Kotick, chief executive of Activision Blizzard, and Ray Maguire, Sony Computer Entertainment’s UK managing director, are the latest to speak out, and they have warned that this decision could threaten future investment.

Take-Two: the Red Dead Redemption gamble has paid off

Investing heavily on Red Dead Redemption was a risk for Take-Two. There was no guarantee that the public would buy into the concept of the game, so it could easily have ended up an expensive flop. Ben Feder, CEO of Take-Two, agrees and he has been speaking to VentureBeat of his delight that the gamble has paid off.

Metal Gear Solid Rising is the beginning of a new series

Metal Gear Solid Rising, the latest in the Metal Gear series, will be different from other Metal Gear games. The focus is on “lightning bolt action” not “tactical espionage action”, and it will have the agile Raiden returning as lead rather than the tough and resourceful Solid Snake. Rising will be the start of a new series of games that will run alongside the usual Metal Gear Solid titles; it won’t be a one-off game.

Crysis 2: the Marine Salvage gameplay trailer

A new trailer for Crysis 2 is available on IGN . The ‘Marine Salvage’ trailer looks as though its been inspired by Cloverfield, with its flickering camera and claustrophobic feel. For a teaser trailer, it’s pretty intense. The trailer is not recommended for proud New Yorkers who don’t want to see their city get demolished – because it most certainly does.

Final Fantasy XIV set to remain a PS3 exclusive

Final Fantasy XIV, the upcoming Final Fantasy MMO, is set to remain as a PS3 console exclusive. The people of Square Enix have never suggested that it would arrive on the Xbox 360, but there has been some doubts circulating around the ‘net that this could change. The Final Fantasy XIV online creator and developer, Hiromichi Tanaka, has moved to quash this speculation, explaining that the Xbox Live system is too “closed” for the game.

Tales of Monkey Island – The PS3 Attitude Review

It’s over a decade on from Escape from Monkey Island, the last – and weakest – game in the series; aside from having a counter-intuitive interface, the game had an air of sterility which suggested Guybrush wasn’t meant for the 21th century. Thankfully Telltale Games disagreed, as Tales of Monkey Island marks a rumbustious return for series. It’s been out on the PC and WiiWare for over a year, and now PlayStation owners have a chance to enjoy its piratey goodness. But while it’s better than its predecessor, does it live up to the high points in the series?

Having PS3 the lead platform for Vanquish has been ‘a success’, says Mikami

Bayonetta, the last project for Platinum Games, was an excellent game, one which we would encourage all PS3 owners to play. It was fast, slick and wonderfully inventive. That being said, us PS3 owners had reasons to be dissatisfied because we ended up with a lesser product compared to the Xbox 360 version.

Thankfully, Platinum Games won’t be making the same mistake with their next game Vanquish, the PS3 is the lead platform this time round and Shinji Mikami (the game’s developer) has assured fans that this approach has been “a success”.

New Crysis 2 trailer – ‘The Pinger attacks E3 2010′

“The pinger attacks at E3 2010.” Those are the ominous words from Crytek in the latest Crysis 2 teaser trailer. It produce two responses from us: we fear for the safety of our employees who will be attending E3, and we wonder who or what is this Master Pinger.

Gamers are said to have active imaginations, which is a good thing because they’re going to need to continue using them in the future. Yes, Vivid Video, the world’s largest distributor of adult entertainment, has run into a brick wall in their attempts to get their mature content streaming on the PS3. Battlefied: Bad Company 2 update fixes several glitches

Few FPS games offer as much fun online as Battlefield: Bad Company 2, but it does have a lot of glitches. For example, none of your kills get tracked if you’re using the awesome M1 Garand. That’s just not fair. Thankfully DICE released an update today which will fix this bug as well as others.

No big E3 plans for Rockstar

CVG are reporting that Rockstar, the publisher behind Red Dead Redemption and Grand Theft Auto, will be having a low key presence at E3 this year.

It was expected that Max Payne 3 and L.A. Noire would be on show at the press event in LA, but Rockstar have changed their plans because they fear there will not be enough time to show as much as they would like.
