Two things sped through my mind faster than a Pirahna while playing WipEout HD tracks on PS Vita against a PS3 player: (1) the crossplay worked perfectly, with no noticeable lag or advantage for one format over the other; and (2) it looked much better on the portable.
Back in November, at a PlayStation Access event in London, I sat down to discuss the high-velocity anti-gravity racer WipEout 2048 with its lead designer Karl Jones. Over a loud backdrop of New Order and Primal Scream, he took me through the singleplayer and multiplayer campaigns, showing me the exciting things Studio Liverpool has been working on for this Vita title.

I’m staring apologetically at my copy of Uncharted 3 as I begin writing this game of the year piece. It’s because it isn’t my game of the year, despite it being the best attempt yet to tie cinematic action with great gameplay and an emotional story. It is a sensational game, and it probably should be the game of the year.
I’ve gone for L.A. Noire instead though, and I’ll briefly explain why. At about this time last year, I decided I wanted something different in 2011. Don’t get me wrong, I looked forward to the big sequels and blockbuster action games as much as the next person did; however, I hoped for something more mature and thoughtful. Check out EA’s new Tricky gameplay trailer for SSX. It has Melon grabs, Switch Indy grabs, Seatbelt grabs and other types of grabs – basically, it shows more grabs than we can realistically get a grip of.

It’s also been so long since I was of the age that would — in theory — appreciate this, it’s hard to give a proper judgement without sounding patronising. So, now we’ve got that disclaimer out the way, let’s get on with the review.
The cryptic unveiling of The Last of Us last week piqued our interest. It wasn’t so much the news of an upcoming game that got us thinking, or even the fact it’s a PS3 exclusive; it was more the tease from Spike TV host Geoff Keighley that it’s being developed by an “amazing developer”.
