Greed Corp. – The PS3 Attitude Review
Submitted by Brodiesan | Wed, 17/03/10 – 14:01 | One Comment

Never let it be said that war isn’t a complex, demanding beast. Especially war on multiple fronts.

Greed Corp., Amsterdam-based W!Games’ inaugural PSN game replete with multiple layers (literally) of nuance and precarious balance, could be used as testimonial evidence of this opening statement.

3D Dot Game Heroes Preview – Oh the nostalgia!

In a society where gamers expected the latest in 3D graphics and technology, there stands one game that returns to the classic pixelated times of old, sorta. We were given the opportunity to experience 3D Dot Game Heroes in all its glory, and we we’re quite impressed to say the least.

Our demo began with a quick look at the character editor and the many wonderful creations you can dream up. Our guide made a quick pixelated version of the lovable Domo-Kun sans body and arms. Right away we could tell that this was going to be awesome…

Did the Heavy Rain demo exceed our expectations or were we left disappointed?

Hands On: Aliens Vs. Predator – The PS3 Attitude Preview

Long before Master Chief and his elliptical world. Before the invasions of Vekta and the subsequent incursion into Helghan. There was Aliens Vs. Predator (hereafter AvP).

Shocking the bejesus out of us all back in 1999 when it reared its xenomorphic tongue-sprouting head on the PC (though this author also remembers the Jaguar version quite fondly), Rebellion’s marrying of both action properties – while also inspired by the eponymous Dark Horse comics – have a special place in the hearts of a lot of FPS veterans. Right where the chest-burster usually goes.

With a new AvP game on the dark horizon, we got the opportunity to visit the guys at Rebellion and get a first-hand look at how the resurrection of one of the most renown franchises in the FPS arena is coming along.

Blue Toad Murder Files – we play Episode 1…

During Eurogamer Expo in London last week, the wonderful people at Relentless Software allowed us 90 minutes of hands-on time to take their first self-published title, Blue Toad Murder Files, for a full spin.

We managed to get through the entire first episode of the forthcoming whodunnit-em-up. So how does the game stack up? And did we manage to pick the right suspect?

GC09; Hands-on with DJ Hero

GC09; Hands-on with DJ Hero

There are a few things this particular writer used to be good at in the ’80s, but that can no longer be managed without the aid of a team of assistants.

Skateboarding, BMX, rock climbing and turntablism to name but a few.

But now thanks to the nice people at Activision, it is possible once again to spin ‘the wheels of steel’ and sound like you actually know what you’re doing. Welcome to the world of DJ Hero.

GC09; Hands-on with Heavy Rain

Heavy Rain has got the gaming community in a spin, what with the stand-out realistic graphics, amazing sound and impressively large script.

But the game has also gained a fair number of detractors, stating that the ‘quicktime event’ gameplay is hackneyed and more akin to Dragon’s Lair than a PS3 blockbuster.

So it was with great interest that we grabbed a DualShock 3 controller and headed off into the world of Heavy Rain for the first time. Here’s the story of what it really feels like to play…

GC09; PSN hands-on with PixelJunk Shooter & Dead Nation

Despite GamesCom being ‘dead’, we still have a lot of GC09 coverage to deliver for you, starting with our hands-on experience of two forthcoming PSN titles – PixelJunk Shooter and Dead Nation.

Whilst we all knew in advance about PixelJunk’s latest title, Dead Nation was one of a number of ‘quietly announced’ titles at GamesCom. So, how do they both play, and will you be wanting to spend your hard-earned cash of either of these games come launch day?

GC09; Resonance of Fate includes over 150 hours of gameplay

GC09; Resonance of Fate includes over 150 hours of gameplay

Resonance of Fate is one of those rare beasts; a JRPG that is actually making roads out of Japan. Known as End of Eternity in the land of the rising sun, Resonance of Fate is close to being finished and localised for US and European markets.

But it isn’t the fact that this is one of the rare Japanese role-playing titles to be distributed elsewhere that grabbed our attention. No – it was the sheer scale of the project that opened our eyes to what the game might hold.

EI09; EyePet Preview

With the likes of Project Natal and the motion controller making waves at E3 earlier this year, it seemed that EyePet took something of a back seat.

With all the smoke and mirrors that can be done with computers these days, it was with some trepidation that we recently sat down with the EyePet to see what the monkey-rat could really do when halfwits like us were in control.

Tamagotchi 2.0? The ultimate kid-friendly, odourless pet?

GC09; Hands on with God of War III

GC09; Hands on with God of War III

It was the moment we’ve been waiting for since we heard that the God of War franchise was coming to our beloved PS3 all those moons ago.

What we weren’t quite prepared for was the sheer violence of the latest chapter in Kronos’ story. In fact, it didn’t matter if you spoke German, English or any other language in Hall 7 – everyone understood what was meant as wave after wave of awestruck gamers uttered the same refrain…

Brutal.

GC09; Aliens versus Predator – the PS3 Attitude preview

It takes a lot to ensure your FPS title stands out from the crowd these days, especially with the vast array of options available.

Aliens versus Predator does this in spades by allowing you to play in single-player and multi-player as any one of the three main factions in the game; Alien, Predator or Marine.

GC09; Bayonetta shows us her bazookas

Along with our preview of Alpha Protocol, SEGA gave us a preview of Bayonetta. Not only that, but producer Yusuke Hashimoto himself held the controller to give us the very best experience.

The very first thing you notice is just how damn good this game looks. The graphics are outstanding, and every animation is smooth as silk. Which is handy, given the amount of the stuff our sexy witch wears (and rubber, leather etc.).

But as he played through the game, Hashimoto-san had a surprisingly powerful new weapon to reveal to us.

Platinum Games talks Bayonetta; Background and Jeanne design

When you hear the term ‘background,’ you think of something rather dull and boring with no movement. With Bayonetta’s case, it’s exactly the opposite. Background is just a simple term for what we like to call a living stage.

Washi, the lead background designer for Bayonetta, took some time to discuss the design process of the game on Platinum Games blog. Mari Shimazaki also makes an appearance to speak about character design with Jeanne. Top it all off with a few questions answered by director Hideki Kamiya and you have one action packed Bayonetta blowout…

Trine – The PS3 Attitude Preview

Trine is an unique game heading to the PSN later this year. With innovative physics-based gameplay, an intriguing story and melancholy soundtrack, there is a justified amount of interest in the game from many corners of the gaming world.

We recently had some time with the PC version of the game and came away impressed.

With the PSN being bolstered weekly with new, quirky and sometimes downright daft games, the question is whether Trine warrants a purchase, based on what we have seen so far?
