FIFA 14 is here, and PS3 Attitude were invited to take part in a tournament earlier this week in an attempt to find out who has ‘unbelievable tekkers’ and who should be sent for an early bath. A group of journalists and bloggers descended on East London with dreams of footballing glory, but how did the game itself hold up under the relentless competitive pressure?
“It was time for my second PayDay. I remember The (original) Heist like it was yesterday. Others remember it too and while many looked upon it favourably, there were those that said we just hadn’t gone deep enough. It was time to move things forward. It was time to enter the rabbit hole.
Or in my case, The Tunnel…”
The Skylanders franchise has been one of Activision’s most successful brands in recent years, combining fun and imaginative gameplay with the addictive nature of collectable figurines. Both the original Spyro’s Adventure and the Giants expansion created fans out of children and adults alike. Their upcoming Skylanders: Swap Force will attempt to complete the collecting trifecta.
I am not a Diablo player. I never have been and up until this past week, I never thought I would be. The Diablo franchise has primarily been a PC venture, and I’ve always felt more comfortable with a controller as opposed to a keyboard. When Diablo III hits the PS3 in September, and the PS4 at a later date, it will feature a new control layout designed specifically for consoles. After going hands-on with this version, Blizzard may just have made a new fan.
Zombies are nothing new when it comes to survival horror but Techland Studios, the developers behind the Dead Island franchise, are looking to continue to trend with their upcoming first-person action adventure where you’ll have to use your parkour skills in order to survive in an open world environment.
The PlayStation DUALSHOCK design has remained pretty much unchanged since the original PS1, but the PS4 introduces the newly improved DS4 that adds a touchscreen pad to the face of the controller and a light bar to its top in addition to usual six-axis sensors and rumble feature.
When the PS4 was revealed during February’s Future of PlayStation event, the DUALSHOCK 4 was actually the only thing physically present on stage. It was the first thing we would come to associate with the PS4 and would blend the touchscreen aspects of the Vita along with the precise control of the DUALSHOCK 3. It was different from the design we’ve become accustomed to, and yet familiar enough.
Payday 2 is the forthcoming sequel to Payday: The Heist, the co-operative first-person shooter that made you the bad guy, attempting to rob from the rich to give to yourself. PS3 Attitude were invited to a preview of the altogether bigger and broader ‘rob-em-up’.
Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons is a new title that looks to follow in the footsteps of the likes of The Unfinished Swan and Journey, combining a bite-sized slice of karmic game-play with an unusual control mechanism. PS3 Attitude were invited to see the game and meet the man behind it.
Grid 2 impressed onlookers at this year’s Eurogamer Expo – no doubt about it. With its dazzling visuals and intelligent physics, the game has the potential to be something special.
“Soul Sacrifice is born from my own personal experience as a game designer”, Keiji Inafune told PS3 Attitude following an intimate behind-the-curtain look at his upcoming PS Vita title, his first game since leaving Capcom.
When you think of Mad Catz, the chances are you probably think of fight sticks, turbo controllers and other hardcore peripherals. It’s less likely that you will think of Mad Catz as a games publisher, but the company is branching out into publishing these days.
Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance has gone through plenty of changes over the last few years and was even on the brink of being cancelled by Kojima Productions before it landed in the hands of Platinum Games. Rising made its playable debut at E3 this past week and we were able to go hands-on with Raiden and his sword slicing skills. Question is, does the game’s mantra of being able to cut anything still ring true?
The FUS1ON controller from accessory makers PowerA is all about giving tournament players a durable controller where everything is designed from the bottom up to fit the player. Featuring widened analog sticks, durable action buttons, and interchangeable grips, is this the controller that can take your gaming skills to the next level?
Last year, Crystal Dynamics and Square Enix wowed us with a darker and grittier Lara Croft than we’ve seen before. Rebooting the franchise to before Lara was the gun touting, ass kicking heroine we’re familiar with, Tomb Raider depicts a fragile girl who is thrust into danger and must survive at any cost. While we weren’t able to go hands-on with the game, we did get to see a lengthy gameplay demo that expanded on what was shown during Microsoft’s press conference.
When PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale was announced, people were quick to dismiss it as just another Smash Bros. clone; after all, it does feature many of PlayStation’s most notable franchise figureheads battling it out in an arena-style fighting game. After going hands-on with the game this past week at E3, we’ve realized that while it may appear similar to Nintendo’s brawler, it’s an entirely different beast.
Dead Space 3 was Electronic Arts big reveal of E3 this year, and the game introduces audiences to a whole new kind of Dead Space. The biggest news is that the game will feature drop-in/drop-out co-op, pairing Isaac Clarke with the newly introduced John Carver. Now that you’re no longer alone, questions arise as to whether or not Dead Space 3 can still deliver the same survival horror atmosphere as its predecessors.
Lately, the Medal of Honor franchise has been in the shadow of the FPS behemoth that is Call of Duty. 2010’s Medal of Honor reboot received generally positive reviews and Electronic Arts aims to eclipse that with Medal of Honor: Warfighter. To set the game apart from all of the rest of the war shooters in development, Warfighter introduces individual Tier-1 Operators that are crafted after real-world combat specialists. In the end, there will be 72 unlockable Operators from all over the world, each with their own unique skill set and weapons.
In the God of War series, Kratos has always ventured alone in his travels to destroy the gods. The upcoming God of War: Ascension introduces the franchise to an all-new multiplayer component that combines the brutality and bloodshed the games are known for with competitive eight player mayhem.
The online multiplayer beta for upcoming tactical shooter Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Future Soldier will be drawing to a close in the next couple of days. Don’t worry if you missed it though, because PS3 Attitude is here to bring you up to speed.
