PS3 Attitude’s Top 100 Developers – Part 5

Believe it or not, the PlayStation 3 was released nearly four years ago, and since then the console has been graced with hundreds of great titles. Therefore, we at PS3 Attitude thought we’d take some time to pay tribute to the people who create the games that make our mundane lives just that little bit more entertaining: the developers.

Over the next few weeks we’ll be revealing our one hundred favourite developers, and believe us when we say that there are some incredibly talented teams included. We’ve now revealed forty developers in our mammoth list, and today we’re revealing another ten.

Mass Effect 2 – PS3 owners should be excited

Gamescom 2010 had many highlights but possibly the most exciting announcement was that Mass Effect 2 will be making its way to the PlayStation 3 in January 2011. BioWare’s crowning achievement has been wowing PC and Xbox 360 gamers for the past year and it’s now our turn to travel the galaxy in this awesome space travelling RPG. Here’s a quick rundown on what we’ve been missing out on…

BioShock Infinite: first impressions

“Keeping secrets is hard”, said Ken Levine, before unveiling Project Icarus to the world. Project Icarus is, of course, the very secretive project Irrational Games have been working on for last three years. It was finally shown to the masses the other day as being a new BioShock game called BioShock Infinite. Sure, another BioShock isn’t much of surprise, but some of the details blew me away.

The good and bad of FirstPlay

We’ve covered FirstPlay here on PS3 Attitude since its launch, in our weekly FirstPlay Thursday articles, and we’re big fans of the digital magazine. However, whilst it has a lot going for it, FirstPlay still has a few issues holding it back that prevent it from being as good as it could be.

Detailed below are five things that FirstPlay does well, and five things that it could improve upon, in the hope of showing what it needs to do to appeal to a wider selection of gamers.

PlayStation Move: what it’ll really cost you

PlayStation Move: what it’ll really cost you

PlayStation Move will be released next month and we’re very excited here in Attitude Towers. We’ve all been impressed by how accurate Move is, and we like the look of the line-up – there’s a healthy mix of party games and hardcore titles to get us started. But there’s one thing left to take into consideration: the cost.

Sony say you can get started for £49.99/$99.99. However, if you shop around you can get started for less, in the UK at least. However, there are some additional costs; some which you might not have considered. Fear not, we’re on hand to let you know what you’ll actually be paying should you want the full Move experience.

F1 2010 – ‘be the driver, live the life’ developer diary

Being an F1 driver requires more than good driving skills. They have to deal with rival drivers, team members, the press and demanding fans. You could even say that they’re constantly at war with these outside forces. With F1 2010, Codemasters want you to experience what it is like to live the life of an F1 driver.

PS3 in July: the summer shutdown (for non-fighters)

PS3 in July: the summer shutdown (for non-fighters)

So far in 2010, we’ve been bombarded with several top quality games and had many interesting topics to discuss. We’ve been very lucky. July was, however, a very humdrum month. Sure, it’s normally dead the month after E3, but we were still looking out for the big releases, but sadly they never came.

Still, we found just enough to keep us interested during the mid-summer shutdown. We digested PlayStation Plus, got to grips with the Medal of Honor Beta and explored Hulu Plus. There were even a few new games announced that left us excited – not to mention an obscene amount of beat ‘em up news. There was also a big announcement here at PS3 Attitude. Here’s the review of the month…

Bleszinski takes us on a walk through Bulletstorm

EA has released a video with Cliff Bleszinski, a designer at Epic Games, who takes us through his team’s latest project, the obscenely gory Bulletstorm. Bleszinski shows off the game mechanics, and he informs us that this is the only video game that allows you to give your enemies “a colon cleansing with lead.” We’re sold.

Metal Gear Solid Rising is the beginning of a new series

Metal Gear Solid Rising is the beginning of a new series

Metal Gear Solid Rising, the latest in the Metal Gear series, will be different from other Metal Gear games. The focus is on “lightning bolt action” not “tactical espionage action”, and it will have the agile Raiden returning as lead rather than the tough and resourceful Solid Snake. Rising will be the start of a new series of games that will run alongside the usual Metal Gear Solid titles; it won’t be a one-off game.
