13 things Final Fantasy XIII-2 has over XIII

Unbelievably, it’s been two whole years since the release of Final Fantasy XIII, and it’s now only a matter of days before gamers can finally get their hands on its sequel.

To celebrate its release, PS3 Attitude thought we’d take a look at what Final Fantasy XIII-2 has that its predecessor doesn’t, and why gamers and Final Fantasy fans everywhere should be excited.

The hottest PS3 games of 2012 – part 2

We’ve moved on from 2011, but what a fine year it was. It was a year packed with many highlights: Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Portal 2, Skyrim, L.A. Noire and Uncharted 3 and Batman: Arkham City, to name just a few.

But we now turn our collective eyes towards the gems 2012 will bestow on us, and it looks set to be another fantastic year.

Over two articles, the PS3 Attitude’s writers are selecting their three most anticipated games of 2012. Staff writers Stefhutch20 and Ryanmoto3 put their votes forward in part 1 and editors DolphGB, Majiesto and Seanoc are following up now.

So without further ado, here are the hottest PS3 games of 2012, selected by Team Attitude.

L.A. Noire | Writer’s GOTY

L.A. Noire | Writer’s GOTY

I’m staring apologetically at my copy of Uncharted 3 as I begin writing this game of the year piece. It’s because it isn’t my game of the year, despite it being the best attempt yet to tie cinematic action with great gameplay and an emotional story. It is a sensational game, and it probably should be the game of the year.

I’ve gone for L.A. Noire instead though, and I’ll briefly explain why. At about this time last year, I decided I wanted something different in 2011. Don’t get me wrong, I looked forward to the big sequels and blockbuster action games as much as the next person did; however, I hoped for something more mature and thoughtful. I wanted a game that dares to be different. I wanted the next Heavy Rain, essentially.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution | Writer’s GOTY

2011 was a superb year for video games with titles such as Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception, Killzone 3, Modern Warfare 3, and a slew of other games, both with and without 3 in the title. With so many great contenders out there, it’s been difficult to pick just one to crown as Game of the Year.

I’ll admit that narrowing down my list of top games was a difficult task, but there was always one game that stuck out most; one game that managed to satisfy every criteria in my head; one game that excelled in all aspects. As a result, I’ve chosen Deus Ex: Human Revolution as the best game of 2011.

Batman: Arkham City | Writer’s GOTY

Now that I’ve had some time to look back at the year that was 2011 (technically still is in fact), it’s no longer hyperbole to declare it one of the industry’s best since the dawn of Pong. Nearly every highly-anticipated game made good on its potential (except for you, Dragon Age II), making it nearly impossible to widdle this embarrassment of riches down to a solitary game.

Portal 2 | Writer’s GOTY

If I were to write about my favourite games of 2011, this article would be ten times longer, and no one would ever finish reading it. Therefore, to spare people from slowly losing the will to live, I’ve somehow managed to cut it down to just one amazing title.

The Last of Us: unravelling the new hottest game in the world

The cryptic unveiling of The Last of Us last week piqued our interest. It wasn’t so much the news of an upcoming game that got us thinking, or even the fact it’s a PS3 exclusive; it was more the tease from Spike TV host Geoff Keighley that it’s being developed by an “amazing developer”.

The Skyrim Journal: Day One

When PS3 Attitude first played The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, we were blown away by its utterly immersive world and practically infinite amount of content.

Therefore, ever since The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim was announced in December, we’ve been counting down the days until we could play it, and now that day is finally here.

What is GamesAid and why does it deserves your support?

Just in case you somehow missed our constant broadcasting, our editor-in-chief DolphGB is tackling the UK’s toughest 10k obstacle course, despite being inactive for several years. His run is this Saturday and we’re trying to raise as much money as possible for PS3 Attitude’s chosen charity, GamesAid.

We mention GamesAid regularly, but it’s been a while since we last explained what GamesAid does and why the charity deserves your money.

Pure Platinum: 7 PS3 classics for less than £100

Last year, PS3 Attitude brought you Pure Platinum, our guide to the best classic games on the PlayStation 3. In the PAL region, if a game sells at least 400,000 copies, then it qualifies for Sony’s Platinum range, giving it a swanky new case and, more importantly, a big price cut.

Since our first Pure Platinum feature, many more AAA games have joined the range, so, with December just around the corner, we thought it was about time we updated the list, in the hope of helping new PS3 owners sort out their Christmas lists.

5 reasons why Portal 2’s Peer Review could be the best DLC ever

Portal 2 was finally released six months ago, and quickly became one of the most critically acclaimed games of this generation. However, if you’re still yet to play it then there has never been a better time, because earlier this week saw the release of Peer Review, the game’s first proper add-on. If you ask us it could well be a contender for the best piece of downloadable content ever; read on to find out why…
