MonkeyPaw Games is most notable for bringing original Japanese PlayStation titles over to the American and European PSN. With titles such as Chou Aniki and Sonic Wings Special, they’ve become somewhat of a niche. Their latest release, however, is not an import but a remake of the classic arcade game BurgerTime.
In BurgerTime, the object of the game is to create delicious hamburgers one layer at a time, all the while avoiding the dangerous condiments and toppings that try and stop you. It was popular back in the 80s and MonkeyPaw Games has teamed up with developers Frozen Codebase to bring the game into the current generation with BurgerTime World Tour.
It seems like every week MonkeyPaw Games is bringing a quirky Japanese wonder to the West. So far we have received straightforward ports of Japanese PSOne games — with language barriers and kids on magic hoovers intact — but the company stepped up to a new level this week with the release of BurgerTime World Tour, a complete reinvention of the 1982 meat-themed arcade game.
Licensing problems. Throughout the nineties, we complained when Japanese titles never made it to stores near us despite taking the Fear East by storm. It got a bit better in the noughties, as our hobby grew in popularity, but the issue never completely disappeared.
BurgerTime World Tour — a remake of the quirky, 1982, Japanese arcade title BurgerTime — is making its way to PSN. PS3 Attitude has been speaking to John Greiner, president and CEO of MonkeyPaw Games, to find out what kind of relish we can expect for this upcoming retro remake.
