Amid mass speculation that subscription numbers had significantly dropped off in the months since its initial release on the PS3, Sony Online Entertainment (SOE) has altered the business model of DC Universe Online (DCUO) to incorporate free-to-play.
When can you expect to get in for free and what does this mean for those that already purchased monthly or lifetime subscriptions (you didn’t buy one of those did you?)?
We’ve seen the likes of Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman battle against the forces of evil in Sony Online Entertainment’s DC Universe Online. Now you can add Hal Jordan aka the Green Lantern to the list.
It would appear that Sony cannot catch a break these past few weeks. We’ve kept you updated on the recent PSN outage and security breach that occurred where 77 million PSN user accounts were compromised.
The latest news from Sony is that information from 24.6 million Sony Online Entertainment accounts has been illegally obtained by the same breach.
For PS3 owners DC Universe Online has been somewhat of a new experience. MMOs have traditionally been relegated to the realm of the PC. However, the success of games like WOW dictated that we would eventually see an attempt at a console MMO.
Those of us who are new to the genre have had many questions concerning the gameplay. Given the monthly fee, one wonders what DCUO has to offer once your hero or villain has reached the level cap (level 30) to warrant continued play.
