Today at E3, Sony Online Entertainment told us that Free Realms will be releasing in the EU soon. They were unwilling to give us an exact release date but did stress the word “soon”. So very vague, sure, but at least soon is sooner than later.
It would appear that Sony cannot catch a break these past few weeks. We’ve kept you updated on the recent PSN outage and security breach that occurred where 77 million PSN user accounts were compromised.
The latest news from Sony is that information from 24.6 million Sony Online Entertainment accounts has been illegally obtained by the same breach.
Ever since Free Realms was released on the PC in April 2009, gamers wondered when Sony Online Entertainment’s free MMO would come to the PS3 as they announced way back when. SOE has disclosed to Kotaku, that a demo for the PS3 version of Free Realms is to be shown at E3. It was expected that the free, family-friendly MMO, would have arrived on the PS3 long before now but nothing has ever materialised. Is the demo a sign that it’s almost ready?

Free Realms was released to the PC last April to great success, reaching one million users just 18 days after its release and two million after a month. We were told that a PS3 version of the game was to come but we were never given a release date. We’ve waited patiently but alas nothing has come up…until now that is.
Though still no word of a PS3 launch, it’s at least a welcome thought that, when console sporting tweens do get to visit Free Realms, the place won’t be as dead as a library full of zombies.

Considering the NDA was as dense and twisty as a new Dan Brown novel, we’re still not sure what we’re even allowed say about what went on in the Free Realms beta.
Of course, it’s all moot now as the game has officially climbed from its sticky protective cocoon and, like a beautiful butterfly; transformed into a delicate creature of hope and wonder, it’s now live for everyone to go in, create a character and start those cooking challenges.
