We’ve all heard the news that THQ has decided to cancel “explorations outside [their] core business”, dropping inSANE like its hot. And Guillermo del Toro is not a man who cares about what publishers or film studios think, but does take notice of what they do. THQ may have just welcomed del Toro to the video game industry in the most unwelcoming way possible. Will del Toro take his insanity to a better place, or will it get a straight jacket and sentenced to life in a padded cell?
THQ has dropped Guillermo del Toro’s inSANE and moved away from casual and social games in an effort to refocus resources towards its core games market.
Jason Rubin, president of THQ, made the announcement during an investor’s call on Monday, where he also revealed positive first quarter figures.
It’s been a month of drinking, eating, and spending time with loved ones, and a month for announcements – big announcements. The following games were unveiled: Uncharted 3, The Elder Scrolls V, Mass Effect 3, SSX Deadly Descents, and a new Tomb Raider; it is a very impressive list. We also learned more about some of 2011’s most exciting games: Homefront, DiRT 3, L.A. Noire, Batman: Arkham City, Resistance 3 and Bulletstorm.
There weren’t many new releases, but the Vietnam expansion pack for Battlefield: Bad Company 2 was a highlight. We also got some demos – and yes, a demo can be a highlight, but only just. Here is the re-cap of the month…
