In celebration of MAG going gold in North America, Japan, Korea, and the rest of Asia, Zipper Interactive have announced that Beta 5 will be available to everyone everywhere beginning January 4th.
What makes Beta 5 so special is that no longer are warzones confined to a single country. No, the beta has gone global. Prepare for world domination in 64 and 256 player carnage.
It may have crippled your download cap (if you have a download cap that is) but if you managed to snag a MAG beta code then we’re hoping you enjoyed your brief time with the 256 player super-shooter.
By the look of the statistics revealed on the Official US PlayStation blog, it would appear so.
For those of you enjoying the fast-paced squad-based online experience in MAG and were upset that the current beta has expired, rejoice! Zipper have extended the current beta deadline.
Popping up over on the Official MAG Developer blog, Jeremy Dunham has announced that the current beta, originally scheduled to end on November 20th, will now be officially extended into next week.
MAG is still awhile away from its January 26th release date and the beta has been moving along quite well according to Zipper Interactive. Starting today, the beta program will enter its next phase – Beta 4 which features more than 6,000 changes!
This beta program is only open to those who have pre-ordered MAG through GameStop. Naturally we’re not going to list all 6,000 but here are some of the highlights.
Not in the MAG beta? We have one US beta code to give away to a PS3 Attitude follower.
How do you enter to win?
If you’re already participating in the MAG beta you may already be aware of a couple of things.
Firstly, the servers are currently buckling due to the influx of Qore subscribers, new beta code lottery winners and other assorted people coming online and hammering the hardware.
Another thing you probably recall is how, after finally getting your grubby hands on a beta code, the actual download weighed in at an almighty 3GB. Well, according to the all-knowing “Shijima”, this download size could actually double during the beta period to a jaw-dropping 6 GiggleBytes.
It’s official, MAG has a solid release date and despite many people’s wishes it will not release this year after all, but on January 26th 2010 – in North America!
The news was announced on the US PlayStation Blog today to the delight of many gamers around the world.
Better open up your nearest email client and look for a message from Sony. Word on the street is that beta invites are being sent out for the 256 player battle royal that is MAG.
Of course, even if you do get the email, it’s not going to be a walk in the park to participate in the beta. You’re going to have to go through some training if you want to become the leader of your own unit…
There’s nothing quite like a rousing speech to get the blood pumping.
Usually delivered by a fat combat-shy leader just as you’re about go over the top, it’s also quite often the last thing you’ll hear …
Obviously taking the softly-softly approach, Sony have confirmed that the first tentative stage of the MAG beta has begun.
How come we haven’t seen sites exploding with new information as people express their opinions about Zipper Interactive’s new 256 player frag-fest? Well, so far, only Sony employees are invited.
MAG is not your average FPS multiplayer game. Touting 256 players at one time, the game is much more than that. By taking control of a single soldier, at what point do you feel like just another cog in the machine or can any one player make a significant blow to the opposing team?
MAG Diaries are back and this time they talk about taking command and controlling your squad. Let the battle commence…
Probably the most talked about aspect of Zipper Interactive’s Massive Action Game (or simply MAG if you prefer to be pithy) is its mammoth 256 player role-call. What hasn’t really been touched upon until now is the actual story behind the game.
Story in an FPS? Who cares! Right? Well, developers usually like to put some context on why you’re killing who you’re killing, and Zipper are no different.
Wishing to offer some back-story as to why you and 255 others will be running around a map trying to off one another, lead game designer Andy Beaudoin and fellow Zipper-ites have popped up over at the official EU PlayStation blog and have talked up the game’s clandestine “Shadow War” premise.
With E3 being less than a month away, expect to see a flutter of press releases coming from every direction. Sony have done us the honor of releasing the list of games they will be bringing to this years convention.
There really are no surprises in what we see. What will surprise us, though, are the secret and juicy games NOT on the list.
Friend of the site (seriously, he likes us!) Jeff Rubenstein sat down with Zipper Interactive’s Lead Designer Andy Beaudoin and VP Michael Gutmann (actually, he stands next to Michael) and practically assaulted them with questions, both his own and some from the readers of the PS blog, about upcoming 256 MMO frag-fest MAG (or M.A.G. – depending on your orientation).
Just in case a brand new gameplay trailer isn’t enough for you, we thought we’d deliver some juicy screenshots for your eyes.
Sony have upped their game lately with the amount of news and info coming out on the title, which is a very good sign and promising for a potential release by the end of the year or beginning of next.
You know what awesome truly means after watching a new official gameplay trailer of one of the most hyped PS3 games released as part of Sony’s Gamers Day 09.
Massive Action Game (MAG) is a 256 player MMO coming to the PS3, and of course we at PS3 Attitude have been excited for this game for a long time, in fact since its announcement at E3.
They haven’t made it terribly easy to find but there’s a new official MAG site up for your rabid ocular dissection.
In the grand tradition of recent reveals, there’s very little to get your teeth into so don’t get too excited just yet. In fact, all you get is a map – and a pretty bare one at that.
You know what they always say: Why do buses always come in threes? Well you could say that MAG (Massive Action Game) is just like buses – We wait nearly a year for more information about MAG, and then 3 pieces of news come at once, in the space of just 4 days.
Tony Iuppa, from Zipper Interactive, has been speaking to NowGamer who are behind the Play magazines in the UK…
New images of Zipper Interactive’s massive multiplayer online frag-fest MAG have appeared today showing off the sheer scale of what 256 players running around one environment while trying to kill one another will look like.
On display are some character models, screen grabs of the game in action and even some environment maps depicting the type of locations you and 255 other gun-happy people will be inhabiting this fall.
