Namco Bandai announces SoulCalibur V

Namco Bandai has officially announced SoulCalibur V as the next installment of its popular 3D fighting game, set for release in 2012.

The game is set to pick up 17 years after the events of IV and will feature both new and classic characters returning to battle for the legendary Soul swords including Patroklos, son of veteran fighter Sophitia Alexandra.

Why don’t fighting games have an online practice mode?

Every major fighting game released this generation has an online feature with the exception of Virtua Fighter 5 on the PS3. Two player battles are pretty much guaranteed and that’s really all you get. Even if a game has multiple modes to play, they won’t be online enabled.

With the recent resurgence of the fighting game genre, one would think that an online training mode would have been done by now.

Now that everything is connected to the internet we are able to extend that playtime even further through downloadable content. DLC can take the form of anything from extra chapters that expand the story to new characters. But when do we draw the line on what DLC is worth? What price are gamers willing to pay to get that extra content?
