Earlier this week, SCE Studio Liverpool became the latest in a long line of developers to unfortunately close their doors. It’s no secret that the videogame industry has been hit extremely hard by the global recession in recent years, so PS3 Attitude thought we’d take some time to remember five of our favourite development studios that are sadly no longer with us.
Last Friday, Disney made the sad decision to close British developer Black Rock Studio, the company behind awesome PS3 racers Pure and Split/Second. We were a big fan of the studio, and last year they were even included in our 100 Top Developers.
It’s been a busy ten weeks here at PS3 Attitude. It is easy to forget just how many great developers are out there, so our intention with this feature was to take the time to thank them for their dedication to the videogame industry.
Believe it or not, the PlayStation 3 was released nearly four years ago, and since then the console has been graced with hundreds of great titles. Therefore, we at PS3 Attitude thought we’d take some time to pay tribute to the people who create the games that make our mundane lives just that little bit more entertaining: the developers.
Split/Second caught a lot of people off guard when it landed in May, as not many gamers were expecting this arcade racer to amount to any kind of real success. Now, not only has the game sold fairly well at retail but it’s also been well received by the media.
Black Rock Studios – the game’s developer- has just announced that there is an overabundance of DLC on the way in the next couple of months.

Split/Second: Velocity (known simply as Split/Second in North America) is the second PS3 title from Brighton-based Black Rock Studio. The game was first revealed at the beginning of last year, with the developer promising high speed and masses of destruction, but did they deliver?

Disney Interactive have announced that Black Rock Studio’s action racer Split/Second will arrive in the already chock-full month of March.
Joining the likes of Final Fantasy XIII and BioShock 2, Split/Second will hope to offer something different than guys with weird hair and homicidal deep-sea divers on the 26th of the month.
