This is a tough generation for Japanese devs working on PS3 with sales and enthusiasm for their products down well below normal and healthy levels.
The UK PS3 game sales charts for 2011 (compiled by GFK Chart-Track) featured no games in the top 10 from Japan. The list was instead dominated by American, Australian, Canadian and European studios. In addition, Japanese devs barely figured in the top 100 multiplatform charts too, excluding the always prolific Nintendo devs.
Medal of Honor, Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, Vanquish, Fallout: New Vegas, Sonic the Hedgehog: Episode 1, FIFA 2011, PES 2011 and Enslaved: Odyssey to the West: these are just some of the games that have stormed the charts in October.
If July will be remembered for its summer shutdown, then October will be known for its abundance of games. What’s more: they were mostly quality. Yes, some underachieved, and others were predictable, but all were worth a play, and play we did…
Tango Gameworks, Shinji Mikami’s new studio, has joined ZeniMax Media, the parent company of Bethesda Softworks. Mikami – the Japanese developer famous for creating the Resident Evil series – will lead his team through the development of AAA games, created for multiple formats.

Play.com are running a fantastic deal offering customers who pre-order Vanquish with a free copy of PlatinumGame’s other title, Bayonetta.
The game costs £39.99 to pre-order (£10 less than the RRP) so it already pays to get in early, but to get a free copy of Bayonetta is a steal.
No doubt you’re already enjoying the Vanquish demo (it’s on the PlayStation Store), so you’ll know already what the game looks like. Never mind, here is new batch of screenshots for you to enjoy.
Believe it or not, the PlayStation 3 was released nearly four years ago, and since then the console has been graced with hundreds of great titles. Therefore, we at PS3 Attitude thought we’d take some time to pay tribute to the people who create the games that make our mundane lives just that little bit more entertaining: the developers.
Over the next few weeks we’ll be revealing our one hundred favourite developers, and believe us when we say that there are some incredibly talented teams included. We’ve now revealed fifty developers in our mammoth list, and today we’re revealing another ten.
SEGA unleashed a new trailer for Vanquish at the Tokyo Game Show. Brace yourself, the voice acting is awful.
EA have announced Shadows of the Damned, a collaboration between Shinji Mikami (Resident Evil, Vanquish) and Suda51 (No More Heroes). Shadows of the Damned is a heavily stylised psychological action thriller due for release in 2011 on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

SEGA has announced that a demo for their upcoming sci-fi action shooter Vanquish will be released on August 31st in North America and on September 1st in Europe.
The demo, entitled Velocity Attack, will allow players to chose one of two difficulty levels, Casual or Normal. As a refresher, you’ll take on the role of Sam, a US government agent equipped with ARS battle suit.
SEGA and Platinum Games’ upcoming fast paced action shooter Vanquish finally has a release date. Hot off the heels of the announcement that Japan would see the game on October 21st, comes the news that Europe will have the game in hand one day later on the 22nd.
While there is no current word of a North American release date, we imagine it’ll be around the same time frame.
Vanquish has already captured the attention of the gaming industry because 1) it’s being developed by Platinum Games, the studio behind the critically acclaimed Bayonetta, and 2) it’s under the direction of Shinji Mikami, the creative mind behind Resident Evil.
To say people have high hopes for Vanquish would probably be an understatement.
Bayonetta, the last project for Platinum Games, was an excellent game, one which we would encourage all PS3 owners to play. It was fast, slick and wonderfully inventive. That being said, us PS3 owners had reasons to be dissatisfied because we ended up with a lesser product compared to the Xbox 360 version.
Thankfully, Platinum Games won’t be making the same mistake with their next game Vanquish, the PS3 is the lead platform this time round and Shinji Mikami (the game’s developer) has assured fans that this approach has been “a success”.
This is not your typical third-person shooter.
Shinji Mikami, the legendary games developer, the man behind Resident Evil, Devil May Cry, and the hotly anticipated Vanquish, has admitted that he was given “too much freedom” during the production of God Hand.
Platinum Games have updated their website with new information on the futuristic sci-fi shooter, Vanquish. It’s been a while since we were teased with the initial trailer, learning that it was San Francisco that was seen being obliterated on the news. Now we also know that it was Russia who was behind the attack.
Fresh from their recent success with Bayonetta, Platinum Games have announced their latest enterprise, Vanquish.
