Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the last few weeks, you’ll know that E3 2013 is now upon us. We’re expecting a truckload of big game announcements, so it’ll no doubt be difficult to keep track of everything that’s going on. With the next console generation very nearly upon us, next week is surely destined to become the biggest E3 since 2005. Quite clearly, Sony’s focus will be on making sure they present the PlayStation 4 in the best light possible, but there’s still plenty to look forward to seeing on PS Vita and even PS3 too. Here are the PS3A team’s hopes and expectations for E3 2013!

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance has gone through plenty of changes over the last few years and was even on the brink of being cancelled by Kojima Productions before it landed in the hands of Platinum Games. Question is, does the game’s mantra of being able to cut anything still ring true?

Last year, Crystal Dynamics and Square Enix wowed us with a darker and grittier Lara Croft than we’ve seen before. Rebooting the franchise to before Lara was the gun touting, ass kicking heroine we’re familiar with, Tomb Raider depicts a fragile girl who is thrust into danger and must survive at any cost. While we weren’t able to go hands-on with the game, we did get to see a lengthy gameplay demo that expanded on what was shown during Microsoft’s press conference.
When PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale was announced, people were quick to dismiss it as just another Smash Bros. clone; after all, it does feature many of PlayStation’s most notable franchise figureheads battling it out in an arena-style fighting game. After going hands-on with the game this past week at E3, we’ve realized that while it may appear similar to Nintendo’s brawler, it’s an entirely different beast.
Dead Space 3 was Electronic Arts big reveal of E3 this year, and the game introduces audiences to a whole new kind of Dead Space. The biggest news is that the game will feature drop-in/drop-out co-op, pairing Isaac Clarke with the newly introduced John Carver. Now that you’re no longer alone, questions arise as to whether or not Dead Space 3 can still deliver the same survival horror atmosphere as its predecessors.
Not to be upstaged by Sony and Ubisoft, Electronic Arts has also had a strong showing at this year’s E3, as the likes of Dead Space 3, Need for Speed: Most Wanted and Crysis 3 are sure to excite gamers.
Our only complaint is that all of the games shown were sequels to existing franchises. Everyone loves a good sequel, but it would have been nice to see EA show off some new interlectual property. Well, that or Mirror’s Edge 2.
But we digress; on with the trailers…
It has to said that Ubisoft had a terrific conference at E3. This was partly because it was presented by comedienne Aisha Tyler, but mainly because the company has arguably the strongest lineup of games of all third-party publishers.
With blockbuster titles like Assassin’s Creed III, Far Cry 3, and the newly announced Watch Dogs, Ubisoft fans have a lot to look forward to over the next year and beyond. So, let’s get cracking with the trailers, shall we?
