Motion Control: can the PS3 avoid becoming a dumping ground for dreadful party games?

Earlier we announced that Sony Computer Entertainment had dated their new Motion Controller (a provisional title) for release this autumn. With its release in sight, we contemplate whether the PS3 with motion sensing is a match made in gaming heaven or whether we should expect to be overrun by a deluge of lobotomy-inducing novelty games – as has arguably been the case with the Wii.

PS3 Attitude’s Most Wanted Games of 2010 #1 – God of War III

Huge. Epic. Ferocious.

Three words that could equally be used to describe God of War III or its Spartan god-slaying protagonist Kratos.

Of course, we could spend all day coming up with other superlatives to express the majesty of God of War III.

Groundbreaking, relentless, eye-popping. We’ll stop there, not because there’s any chance of running out of adjectives, but because words have a strange way of not living up to the grandeur Sony Santa Monica Studio’s legendary tale of Greek mythology and gratuitous violence will deliver next year.

PS3 Attitude’s Most Wanted Games of 2010 #6 – The Last Guardian

Fumita Ueda is one of the greatest artists working today.

It’s a bold statement, but if the “Are games art?” case were to ever go to trial, we’re pretty sure Team Ico’s Ueda-san would be called as a key-witness. In fact, he might even be the defendant.

Ueda-san is one of the rare few in the gaming industry who bows to no man. A visionary with shows impeccable patience on the path toward an ultimate goal. The creation of a videogame that not only entertains, but engages a player on the most emotional of levels.

Next year, after five years since his last project, The Last Guardian will launch on the PlayStation 3. And when it does, after hopefully being experienced by as many people that it deserves, there won’t be a dry eye in the house.

Dante’s Inferno demo impressions; take us to Hell

Dante Alighieri, whose epic poem we have come to love, has been given a massive makeover. Gone are the days of writing poetry and in its place is a warrior of the Crusades.

In Dante’s Inferno, Dante will find himself at the gates of Hell, Death’s scythe in hand, determined to rescue his love Beatrice from the clutches of Lucifer himself. But before we enter the fiery depths of the underworld, we must find how Dante came to this point.

EA seek “Senior Online Level Designer for Dead Space”; draw your own conclusions

We’ve debated about it in the past, but it seems the perennial All Games Need Multiplayer hokum just won’t die. Next up to the online plate would appear to be the recently announced Dead Space 2.

Found lurking in the darkest corners of LinkedIn, EA have advertised an open position at Redwood City, CA – the location of Visceral Studios – for the new Dead Space game. The publisher are quoted as “Seeking a highly motivated Senior Online Level Designer for the Dead Space franchise on Xbox360 and PS3. This is a major opportunity to contribute creatively to an exciting new franchise.”

Recent Brink footage all PC; but runs on consoles “just as good.”

Splash Damage’s futuristic and dystopian FPS Brink has surfaced recently with new and exciting footage showing off the game’s unique SMART system.

Blending a free-running element akin to Mirror’s Edge with the usual ferocity associated with a First Person Shooter – as opposed to a First Person Runner – Brink is looking like a hot prospect for the end of next year.

Some eyebrows were raised, however, regarding just what hardware was actually running the current build on display in these aforementioned videos. Reported over at PS3 University – after confirmation from Splash Damage on their official forums – the footage shown is in fact from the PC version.

But don’t fret. The console versions will be on par. Apparently.

PSP’s Digital Comics on the PS3 “really interesting” says Sony

It’s looking like it might be a big week for Sony’s new Digital Comics service.

Announced at this year’s E3, and due to be a major digital cog in the PSP’s wheel going forward, comic fans are eagerly awaiting to see how the new service will actually pan out.

Of course, we’re still holding out for Digital Comic to make an appearance on our beloved PS3. And it would appear that Sony, too, are at least listening.

Those of us looking for an early trip to Hell will get the very chance next month when a demo for Visceral Games’ Dante’s Inferno hits the PSN.

Entitled “Gates of Hell”, the demo is actually the entire first level of the game and will see the damned/early adopters fight through Hell’s first layer of nasties and then take on Death himself.

Fairytale Fights – The PS3 Attitude Review

Once upon a time, there was a girl in red, a boy with a pumpkin on his head, a princess, and a little naked man; all of whom lived in a land filled with books and fantasy creatures. One day, they all lost their fairytale fame and fortune so now they must find a way to get it back.

This isn’t your average kid’s story however. Angry lumberjacks, sharp knives and buckets of blood are commonly seen throughout Fairytale Kingdom. Is this tale a classic or is it bound for the used book bin?
