Gamescom09; Eidos and Square Enix confirm joint line-up

There’s at least one good outcome now that Eidos Interactive fits snugly under the wing of Square Enix – where we got two press releases in the past, we now get just the one cost-effective announcement in their place.

Confirming their joint game line-up for this year’s Gamescom, Square Enix and Eidos have revealed what games will be on show at the annual European expo in Cologne, Germany. And boy, it’s a doozy.

Shatter – The PS3 Attitude Review

E3 was a momentous event that housed tons of gaming big screens, booth babes, and flashy lights and sounds. Tucked away between the two halls of the convention, right next to the Into the Pixel Gallery, was a lone setup. There were no booth babes, no flashy gimmicks, and just one game. The game was Shatter and its developer; Sidhe.

Finally, almost two months later, the game has been released and we were excited to finish what we had started back at E3. You play as BAT1138, a slave to the machine empire, forced to harvest energy for his masters. After a breakdown, he becomes self aware and breaks free from his prison. In order to escape, BAT must successfully traverse the ten levels of the factory and defeat the bosses at the end of each.

‘Shatter’ing Interview with developer Sidhe

We had the opportunity to talk with Mario Wynands, the Managing Director of Sidhe, about their upcoming PSN title, Shatter. The game, developed and published for the PlayStation Network by the team, is a re-imaging of the retro brick breaking genre. What sets it apart from the rest is the ability to ‘suck and blow,’ giving the player more control over the course of the ball.

In our exclusive interview with the team, Mario talk about the creation of BAT1138, our hero of the story (yes, there is a story involved), and what makes Shatter so different for all the other games out there. By the end of it all, you’ll be itching for some brick breaking action.

The Beatles have composed over 200 songs so narrowing down the list to 45 for their upcoming version of Rock Band could be a difficult task. We now have the next fifteen that are to be included, bringing the total to 25. With only a fraction of tracks left, any guesses on what songs are to be announced next?

Today we travel back to Hell again with Dante in this new trailer from the folks at EA. Watch as he uses Death’s Scythe and his cross to destroy the creatures of the damned. He looks a lot like Kratos to us with the way he swings from place to place and slices the surrounding enemies. Thankfully, that isn’t a bad thing.

Ico creator has a love/hate relationship with technology

Fumito Ueda, the much-lauded creator of Ico, has been talking with games magazine ‘Level’ about aesthetics versus the available technology, and he admits he has a love/hate relationship with the limitations hardware imposes on him.

As the project lead on The Last Guardian, that led manly journalists to shed real tears when it was shown at E3 this year, Ueda has a lot to say about how visible flaws can be made inconsequential when placed in an impactful gaming world.
