When Kazou Hirai takes to the stage at Gamescom tonight (2pm EST) the PSN will be powered down for what Sony are calling “routine maintenance.”
It’s not the first time the network has been taken offline for such measures (and it won’t be the last) but speculation is rampant that the fact that the two hour downtime just so happens to coincide with Sony’s keynote at Cologne is no coincidence.
The most likely reason the whole network needs rebooting would be the arrival of a new firmware.
That said, don’t be surprised if they simply chose this time purely because they expect most gamers to be glued to live feeds of the conference and not online killing Helghast.
Next month Gamescom, the European gaming convention, returns to Cologne in Germany and all major publishers are expected to be there.
Sony has today announced the date and time for their conference there that could see a few exciting announcements.
We can never have enough options can we? It seems these days that just when you think you’ve got it made with your console and gaming set-up, something new comes out. Well, Sony is about to continue that trend by offering a few new PS3 Slim models.
So what exactly is new about these models?
We’re already big fans of DJ Hero here at Attitude Towers, partly thanks to our early hands-on with the game, but we were always a little worried about the track list.
Would it be varied enough to attract different ages and music fans, or would it be just for the hardcore turntablists out there.
Well, wonder no more as Activision have revealed all 93 tracks, and they seem to have covered everything.

The PS3 re-design was recently revealed by Sony at GamesCom in Cologne.
While we were not surprised to see the new PS3 unveiled, it struck me as somewhat odd that no-one had thought that a re-design of the PS3 would look like the model that was unveiled.
Heavy Rain has been making waves at GC09 this past week.
One of the snippets which has come to light is the length of script, and boy is it a mammoth. Not literally, obviously… That would just be ridiculous.
No, Heavy Rain has one of the largest scripts of any entertainment medium we have ever heard of.
For comparison, the average script is between 95 and 125 pages long.
Heavy Rain, on the other hand?
Rockstar has now come out and voiced their response to the news that GTA IV: Lost and the Damned may be in fact coming to the PlayStation 3 and is playable at Gamescom.

You can’t say that SCEE doesn’t have your back, at least until next week. Europe has a whopping four demos today.
