If you asked me at the beginning of March what my favourite game of the year was likely to be, without a doubt I would have said Heavy Rain. With its incredible atmosphere, innovative gameplay and compelling story, it kept me engrossed for no less than five full playthroughs. However, on 9th March 2010 along came a game that completely blew me away: Final Fantasy XIII.

When Deus Ex: Human Revolution gets released in early 2011, it will become only the third game in the franchise’s ten year history. Ignition Entertainment were proud to walk away from the Tokyo Game Show with the approval of the masses. The 200,000 attendees voted Ignition’s El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron as their ‘Future Game of the Show 2010.’ You can’t fail to be impressed by a game that not only has a distinctive visual style, but one that also finds its inspiration in old religious texts to boot.

10 thoughts to take away from TGS 2010

So much happened at the Tokyo Game Show that it’s easy to lose track of all the news. There were grown men crying, Samba Buses sliding, Dante looking hellish and Hell looking stylish; NIS embraced Hi-Res sprites and SEGA enlisted zombies. So basically we had a lot of shocks, surprises, some predictability and plenty of wow moments.

TGS, more than anything, showed that Japanese game development is still going strong today, despite rumours of the contrary. Japanese developers are still pumping out hugely inventive, aesthetically pleasing titles – the sort of games that make you say, “that must come from Japan.”

Front Mission 3 coming soon to the PlayStation Network

Square Enix has announced that Front Mission 3, the first and only Front Mission to be released in PAL territories, will be coming to the PlayStation Network soon for PS3 and PSP.

For those of you unfamiliar with the series, it is a turn-based strategy RPG featuring giant mechs called Wanzers. Think along the lines of Final Fantasy Tactics. There are two independent storylines, each with their own characters, environments, and situations for up to 150 hours of gameplay.
