Submitted by | Tue, 21/05/13 – 14:34 | No Comment

This is done via creating shelter, collecting materials and fighting off monsters who are more than ready to attack you the moment you’re off-guard. Although many people compare Terraria to Minecraft, and the resemblance is easy to notice, does it stand on its own two feet?

E3 10; LittleBigPlanet 2 gets a release date?

Hands up those who were impressed with the LittleBigPlanet 2 section of Sony’s E3 conference, because we certainly were. When they said it was a platform for creating games, they really weren’t kidding!

It seems that the power of creation might be closer than you think if a recent press release is anything to go by.

E3 10; Gran Turismo 5 gets launch date (seriously)

It’s finally been announced! After years of development, several delays and (last time we checked) a bar tab of about $80 million – Gran Turismo 5 has a release date.

Guys and Gals, we kid you not.

North American PS Store Update For June 1st – Still no Chun-Li avatar…

This week isn’t so bad. Although N2O being a PSone Classic is a joke. Especially since Europe received Final Fantasy IX last week. Such cruelty.

A bunch of PSP games are now ridiculously cheap. We don’t talk much about the portable system, but you’ll definitely want to pick up many of these games if you haven’t done so already. The original Soldner-X also received a permanent price drop and there’s even a bundle pack that includes Soldner-X 2 (review coming soon!).

There’s two new games this week: Tecmo Bowl Throwback and Planet Mini-golf. A demo is available for only Planet Mini-golf for some reason.

Aside from that, everything else is DLC. Nothing unusual here. More songs for Guitar Hero, Rock Band, and even more Record of Agarest War milking. Map Pack 2 for Lost Planet 2 is out now and Dead to Rights: Retribution has DLC that features new multiplayer modes.

New avatars for Soldner-X 2 and Super Street Fighter IV (Juri, Akuma, Sagat) can be purchased for a low price. There is a disturbing lack of Chun-Li. Next week maybe? We’ll see. If not, there will be a riot.

PS3 in May: Red Dead Redemption skins the competition but future titles dominate the news

This month, we’ve been skinning everything in sight in Red Dead Redemption, demonstrating our construction skills in ModNation Racer and making our boards do the work in Skate 3. But as much as we enjoyed these titles, our thoughts kept drifting to the future as we got excited about news of sequels to massive PlayStation exclusives. Here’s the rundown of May’s highlights…

The PS3(D) goes live on 10th June in Japan

Sony has set a release date for the first batch of updates to convert existing games into stereoscopic 3D. On June 10, updates for Wipeout HD, Star Super Stardust HD and Mr. Pain will be available on the PSN.

The great news is that updates for Wipeout HD and Super Stardust HD will be absolutely free, the bad news is that you will have to pay ¥300 (£2.26/$3.28 if converted accurately) to play Mr. Pain in 3D.

The UK’s position as a world-leading developer of video games is under threat. For years it has been the third largest employer of development staff in the world, with the USA and Japan in first and second position, but recent times have seen the UK overtaken by the Canadian games industry.

Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo – the motion sensing marketing war

Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo – the motion sensing marketing war

The upcoming release of PS Move and Natal, the motion sensing devices from Sony and Microsoft, has marked an interesting change in the way these two gaming institutions promote their consoles. It’s a shift because it’s the first time peripherals have taken centre stage for either company. Sony and Microsoft have traditionally taken a very conservative approach to console development, believing superior graphics to be the holy grail. When it comes to input devices both have been happy to stick with the trusted joypad.
