We always thought that this was going to be an almost certainty, but it has now been confirmed that Final Fantasy XIII will be getting a Collector’s Edition next year.

We can pretty much assume that this is for North America as well as Europe, and Final Fantasy XIII fans should now be rejoicing at the news in both regions.

Now that Eidos Interactive have officially transmogrified into Square Enix Europe, it’s interesting to hear how the new relationship is shaping up around the globe.

Speaking at the 6th annual Montréal Interactive Gaming Summit, and wasting no time flying the Happy Families Flag, the Japanese gaming giant’s CEO, Yoichi Wada, revealed plans are in their nascent form for a collaboration between Eidos Montréal and Square Enix on what he refers to as, potentially, their “first development collaboration.”

Final Fantasy XIII gets global release date

Square Enix have announced today, via a special video trailer on the official website, that Final Fantasy XIII will be released in Europe (plus other PAL territories) and North America on 9th March 2010.

In addition to the launch date, the game’s theme song is to be provided by X-Factor winner Leona Lewis.

We’re not quite sure of the logic behind developing two games that share a great deal in common but having one exclusive for the PS3 and the other for the 360. We guess SquareEnix have their reasons.

Nier RepliCant (the PS3 outing) has a slightly more effeminate protagonist and, instead of trying to save a daughter, the PS3 version seems to switch in a sister in peril.
