Have Viacom lost the plot?

Rock Band is one of the most highly anticipated titles this year. Taking the Guitar Hero format and adding in drums, microphones and multiple guitars is just a master stroke.
So when the first actual game play footage hit the 'net a couple of days ago everyone went crazy for it.
Dozens of uploads to YouTube later, ad the whole world seems to be talking about the game.
That is until Viacom pulled every last one of them. Viacom own MTV, who acquired Harmonix (the makers of Guitar Hero). And it's not the first time they've summarily pulled their content from YouTube. Viacom are well known for flexing their copyright muscles.
Do they not realise the buzz that's being generated by the footage? Other companies would be laughing all the way to the bank with this much free publicity. But alas Viacom have signed a deal with Joost so don't want their content on any other delivery platform.
You can still find the footage on YouTube (search for "rock band gameplay") as it gets uploaded and then blocked, and uploaded again...

On one hand, some companies are simply trying to protect their assests. From other companies possibly stealing ideas before the game has actually hit the beta stage or just from the general public. On the other hand, corporations are greedy and want nothing less than total control. So when someone slips some content to the fans through some dark back alleys, all virtual hell breaks loose. Whatever the reason, we're sure to see some official footage after E3 if they know what's good for them.
If not, then we can thank Activision for Guitar Hero Encore: Rock the 80's to be released later this month.
As a seperate blog, I don't agree with the $49.99 US price tag on the next Guitar Hero game. Only 30 or so songs and no bonus tracks! Come one, $39.99 or less people!
Personally I'm torn as to whether to get Guitar Hero III, Rock Band or both!
I love Guitar Hero and have missed it since going from PS2 to PS3 but occasionally pop into Game in the UK to get my fix on their demo machine!
It's a scream watching the faces of the 'youngsters' when an old man like me rips Heart-Shaped Box in Expert mode! LOL
